Hello all -
Long time listner, first time caller
35.gif
I have been lurking in the shadows for some time now, but it''s time to come out! I need your expert advise on a round brilliant diamond that is currently on hold at my jewler. Background - I got engaged a few years ago (ring - princess cut 1.30 ct, platinum band), love him (ring not so much). Well, I am finally gettting married (to my absolutely fabulous man) and he has agreed to an upgrade to my ring (told you he is fabulous). Anyway, after much indecision on my part, I have finally decided on a RB as the stone, and a micro pave halo setting. All of your posts have been soooooooo helpful in both of these decisions.
So - finally I have located a diamond that I am ready to purchase, but I need your feedback (please!). Here are the specs, and I will also give you some pics too. This may be the last chance to upgrade this ring for a few years, so I want to be sure that I am purchasing a quality stone.

1.18 ct
Dimensions: 6.85 x 6.80 x 4.11
Total Depth: 60.2%
Table: 57.3 %
Color: F
Clarity: SI2 (note - eye clean, with 10x -- two slight inclusions seen best from side not top down, one of which will be obscured by the setting)
Polish/Symmetry - VG VG
Crown Angle: 33
Pavillion Angle: 41
Girdle: med

AGA Cert

Please let me if I missed anything. Now I will try to attach some pictures :)

Your feedback would be sooooooo appreciated!!!

What does AGA stand for?

It is from the Accredited Gem Appraisors, located in Philadelphia

This is a view of the diamond in the setting from above (if this works)

This is a view of the ring from a side angle so you can see the setting better

The diamond is loose, so it it just placed in the setting now to get an idea of the overall look, but I think it helps when you try to visualize it.

Thoughts anyone? I really do need your help!

Okay, I think Dave Atlas is or was affiliated with them, so that is probably fine. We are more familiar with GIA and AGS grading labs.

When I put the numbers in the cut advisor, it gets excellent in all areas, but it does not fall within the AGS0 ideal area. It does fall within GIA excellent, though. I think we like to see the crown angle between 34-35. However, if you have seen this stone and it looks beautiful, then I would say go for it! Your eyes are the best judge and it does have good numbers!

Thank you so much for your help diamondseeker. I was a little disappointed about the cert as well, but when I saw the numbers I felt more comfortable. I can''t tell you how much I have learned here in the last few months. The rings is beautiful in person and I actually feel it stands up better then a GIA similar stone that he also showed me. Just plain brighter and more fire.
I will most likely get it looked at by GIA after purchase.

What would be your main concern besides the cert?

I would not worry about the cert. I think they are reliable appraisers because of the affiliation of Dave Atlas. I'd probably not bother sending it to GIA...and you can't if you have it set anyway. My only other concern would be that you not overpay too much.

I guess I've been on here so long that when I recommend a stone, it is usually going to meet the AGS ideal standards. However, since you have seen this stone in person, it is likely that you wouldn't even be able to tell it from an AGS0. So I'd recommend that you buy it if you love it. Eye clean SI2's in a great cut are a nice find!

It looks like a pretty diamond, the main thing is if the price is right, you have seen it in person and love it.

Thanks! It is a fair price, as I am coming in a bit below what I am finding for comps online, so I feel like it is a good bargin but I don''t want to regret it later. I am very nervous
