Diamond melee when selling gold necklace

I have a fairly heavy 18 kt gold choker style necklace that I haven't worn for years and have been thinking of selling it for the gold. It has 28 very nice diamond melee (very good color, sparkle and probably each 1.8mm to 2mm). I hate to just toss these with the gold, but not sure how to remove them. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Or if it can even be done.

Do you have a jeweler you trust? If so, I'd take the necklace to them and see what they say. I wouldn't part with that melee just to get the funds from scrapping the gold...

I recently sold some old settings and the jeweler asked me if I waned the melee out and returned them the next day in a little baggie.

Ask the jeweler to do it...you can use the melee for another piece!!

thanks everyone!! It is really pretty melee- more sparkly than almost any other I have seen so it's good to know the jeweler can get it out.I thought it would be nice to be able to use it for another project,too!
