Diamond Loose in Setting What to do?

Hi all! I discovered last night that my diamond is loose in my setting. It moves side to side (not up and down) a bit. I bought the diamond and setting from BGD in Houston and I live in California. Do I send the ring back and have them tighten it or do I find a local jeweler? I emailed BGD but haven't received a response because it is the weekend. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I am not currently wearing it which is a total bummer. I want to get it handled ASAP. Thanks for any advice you all can provide.

Ana

You will void the warranty if anyone else other than BGD works on your ring. So I would call them tomorrow and see how to proceed. They have assisted me in sending my jewelry back through Fedex in the past.

Thanks for the info! I will get in touch with them tomorrow so that I can send it back for repair.

Send it back to BGD. It shouldn't cost you anything. This happened to my ring from them soon after I received it and they fixed it no problem and at no cost. They said it happens sometimes when some of the wax used to set the stone doesn't all come out at first - it falls out later and causes a gap between the stone and the prongs (or something like that!). I've had my ring for a year and a half since they tightened it and have never had a problem since. :) I also am in CA and wondered the same thing about just getting it fixed locally but realized I didn't want anyone other than BGD working on it and I didn't want to pay for it!

They usually send out a fed ex label for any issues, then you send it in, they fix it and send it back. It's super easy.

Thanks! I got my ring in April so I am glad to know it is common. I will hopefully hear from them tomorrow.

I think they have the Warranty over what they sell and they should be able to provide you Label UPS/Fedex to fix the ring.

Good advice above to talk to the vendor about it.

I would like to add a bit. Don't wear it in the meantime. Diamonds and most other gemstones are very hard, gold and platinum not so much. A loose diamond that's moving in the setting wears against the inside of the prongs and the problem gets progressively worse until the prongs are completely worn away from the inside. In most cases this sort of problem isn't difficult to fix but it's important that you DO fix it.

This last week had several Jewish holidays and many people took time off from work to celebrate. I'm confident you'll be hearing from him soon.

BGD is closed until Wednesday so I have to wait :( One of their lovely workers will be sending me a label and I will fedex it to them then. I am bummed because I have a family party on Saturday where I wanted to show off my lovely bauble. However, I would MUCH rather have my ring safe and sound than fall out or do permanent damage to the setting. Thanks for all the info!!!
