Diamond Help for this Tacori Setting

I am purchasing this Tacori setting for my girlfriend's engagement ring. Most likely in white gold, but may go platinum route also. Picture of setting below from tacori's site. Ring size is 3.5 so she has some small fingers. Want to try and find best compromise of factors to get largest ring possible, as I am sure almost every buyer does. As long as its eye clean, I am open to playing around with different values in the 4 C's...

I believe a round stone will look the best and really want to be at 2.5 carats if possible. I have been exhaustively looking at various sites and just now came across the HCA test on this site, which I will plan to use to narrow down stones. Would ideally like to keep budget of stone at $20k, I realize this may be impossible so can go up a bit if necessary. Obviously, stone needs to be eye clean! If not possible, I may consider a square looking cushion, but with this setting I really think round is way to go...

Would value any suggestions on vendors or specific diamonds, as I want to order in next week or so!2578rd9_multi.jpg
 
I'm not even going to go shopping for you until you let us know what your max budget is. :wink2:
 
Haha, I really want to stay under $23k. $25k is absolute maximum, but again really want to stay around $20k if at all possible!
I appreciate the help because at this point I feel I am on information overload from just reading past posts in this forum. :))

Ideally, it would be eye clean from side, but less concerned with that since you will really only notice from top I would imagine. The diamond you linked too has too may inclusions for my liking. I have been mostly looking at I color, do you think H makes a big difference for this setting??
 
I really want to be at the 2.5 carat mark if possible. Realize it will be tough with budget of $25k and under. Beautiful stone though!

Are you planning on sending it back to tacori to set with the new stone or having it set at a local jeweler? I ask because I would be hesitant to let someone touch the basket/prongs if the size is vastly different between your current setting and your 2.5. If it's close enough, you could consider looking for rounds that fit the mm requirement, not necessarily ruling others out if they don't hit that magic 2.5
 
My plan was to bring back to an authorized tacori dealer to set stone. I am assuming that would keep all warranty intact no??
 
I think you are correct in this. In order for the warranty to be valid, the stone needs to be set at an authorized Tacori dealer, and since you're dealing with a pretty delicate setting and a big stone, I would only trust it in the hands of an authorized dealer. I'm pretty sure they send it directly to Tacori to set it.

In terms of getting in touch with AutumNovember, you could try creating a new thread with the title: "Calling AutumNovember about Tacori ring" or something along those lines. I don't know how active she is here, but she might catch it and be able to help you out.

In terms of finding a 2.5ct round for your price range, I found this on the WF website: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2821738.htm which would be slightly above your budget limit if you pay through bankwire. But I think they offer discounts to new customers and there is a pricescope discount as well I believe.

I also quickly browsed Brian Gavin's website, which showed some options for you that are at 2.5ct or just a hair above within your max price range of 25K. It looks like you wouldn't get to the 2.5ct mark under 25K unless you go down in color (to the I-J range). Even the search results I got were mostly SI1 and SI2, so you would have to make sure they are eye clean. I would probably contact them directly to find you a diamond. I've never heard any bad experiences from someone who bought a diamond from him.
 
Yes I'd been watching this thread and I was looking though JA and they had some lovely stones in your budget with good clarity but they were k's.
 
Thanks again for all comments so far. The other question I had was weather it was worth the extra $1100 to have the setting in platinum vs the white gold. Any comments on that, particularly with tacori settings??
 
It really depends on personal preference. There's pros and cons to both. I'm on my phone now so it's not easy for me to link a thread but if you do a search on the forum there is lots of info about the differences between each. I'd say white gold if you are concerned with going over budget for the center stone?
 
I have to tell you, this is my favorite setting of all time. One day, it will be mine ... and when it is, I'm going to try and find the biggest eye-clean Old European Cut (OEC) J SI stone I can find. My choice would be for white gold.

I hear others recommend Old World Diamonds so maybe it's worth a call to them too!

I had a quick look at the Old World Diamonds site, and if you like the look of OEC's - I found this one - 2.5 J VS1 - http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=1374&SHAPE=EU

Because it's an antique style ring, I think it would look best with an antique, or antique style OEC - and using an OEC also lets you come down the colour scale somewhat, as OEC's look better with slight tint (IMHO) - but OECs are not everyone's cup of tea!

If you don't like OEC's then a Modern Round Brilliant (MRB) would be the way to go - eg http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9590/
But you may need to consider coming up the colour scale, or at the very least try to see it in person.

Thanks for the comments! I think I am going to stick with modern RB stone. I definitely want something with an excellent cut that has some fire to it. I really do not want to go below an I color either so am continuing to look.
