diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusion?

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Hi Daysie8. I think the diamond will be quite nice actually. That first picture, set3, is still magnified and taken at an angle at which you will rarely view the ring. If the jeweler says eye-clean, I believe him.

Congrats getting the refund policy in writing! :appl: That should make you feel much better. Frankly, I think you'll forget all about it when you open the box and see what looks like a 2.2-carat stone! :cheeky:

Pardon me if I'm being gauche, but how big is your SIL's ring?

is this what you mean?
After that I've see these videos I can say that the inclusions are too visible.
The diamond seems beautiful but the inclusions ruin its beauty.

Aww thanks Starryeyed!

Yeah, I'm really happy that I ended up getting the written refund confirmation. I had to talk to 3 ppl, plus initially they said it had to be back by this Sat, and I was like, but I'm only getting the stone on Thursday??! How will I ever have time to do the appraisal in time AND decide? In the end I think the owner could sense my agitation cos I ended up saying to him, this means if I don't like the stone, I'm actually going to hop on a plane and fly from the east coast to the west coast just so I can return it to you on time. I think he felt really bad after that and extended it til Tuesday as the deadline. I know it's not much more time, but at least I'll have the w/e to decide. TOo bad I have to supervise exams this Sat though....urgh...

Her's is a RB, 2.54ct F/VS2 with a Leon Mege custom design :twirl:
But they're totally loaded!!

You have to remove the space after the [ for it to work. :P For example

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

wear it and if you don't LOVE it...then take it back. It might also help to go to some other jewelry stores to compare?

Hi Slg47,

In Aus, it's pretty hard to compare with B&M stores. THe last time I asked, someone tried to sell me a G/SI2 for around $28,000+! And this was already them giving me a steep discount cos I told them I preferred to buy from online vendors. Plus most stores here don't even carry 2cts+ or anything really worthy for comparison.
Wish I were in the U.S right about now ;))

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Well now you are literate. :)

Good luck with the viewing. Did you get any appraiser recommendation?

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

LOL! You learn something new everyday. ;))

Btw, thanks for the tip on emailing Garry H for a appraisal recommendation. He got back to me straight away with a guy in Sydney. Will be making an appt first thing in the morning

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

No prob. :)

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Sounds like this diamond will look pretty close to your SIL's! She will be so jealous that you have a stone that appears almost the same size as hers, at a fraction (probably) of the cost. :Up_to_something:

I love the spotlight movie - so sparkly! Those inclusions don't look like hardly anything - they are virtually indiscernible from dust.

By the way, tell you fiance to get his diamond priorities straight! Cut last?????? :naughty:

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

I think you need to see it to decide. With this diamond you are getting a larger and/or whiter diamond than you could otherwise afford at that clarity grade, because it is less expensive than the comparables. Perhaps because you can see the inclusions from the side. Will this matter to you? Maybe, maybe not. You cannot judge at all from photos. You will know when you see it. IF YOU DO NOT LOVE IT IMMEDIATELY send it back. No fooling. This is a lot of money, you deserve something phenomenal and you can get it. You can get a smaller diamond, a G color, a different VS2... lots of options. Do not settle.

But wait until you see it to decide how you feel.

As to the cut, in real life you won't notice it is any different than any other well proportioned stone I wager. Unless cut perfection is personally important to you, I would not worry about that one either. But wait and let your eyes decide.

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

P.S.
I made the mistake of taking the ring to an appraiser and paying for an appraisal for a ring I already knew I wasn't in love with. Getting the results from the appraiser just rubbed salt in my wounds. IF you know right away you don't love the ring, safe the $$ for the appraisal for a stone you DO love. I just don't think there is any point in paying for an appraisal on a stone you don't love...no matter what he/she says it's not going to make you love it.

Hi Starryeyed,

I've tried on her ring before and it was gi-normous!! She is also one of the most generous and kind ppl I know, so I hope she isn't going to think I'm trying to compete with her or anything (which I am not. My mum has been brainwashing me into getting a 2ct + ring since I've been about 15).

She also had a way larger budget than she actually spent. The ring was her maternity ring upgrade after 2 kids, so it's all very well deserving.

Haha...bf (hasn't properly proposed yet ;)) ) did not know about PS before so had no idea about cut. His definition of cut was the shape until I started sending him here. But he's only just learnt how to use HCA ;(

Hi Dreamer_D,

I will definitely and STRICTLY follow your "if I don't love it straight away" rule. I am a big believer of first instincts and will try to avoid being influenced by OMG I finally have the ering.

Also, I am not a person that needs perfection on paper. I don't plan on upgrading or selling the diamond, so there really is no reason that I need the certain percentages. I am however, very big on cut in terms of how it actually performs in real life. Consistent with what you have said to me before, I got an OGI report from jogia, and it does say it's ideal brightness and has good scintillation but only excellent in fire. Will definitely let you know if I can even discern this properly when I finally get to see it.

I think if we do refund it, I will go with a lower colour and definitely a different VS2, if not a different SI1. My bf is an optometrist, so he is very sensitive to how clear something is. In retrospect, we should have compared just how different our sensitivities are before going ahead with any stone.

Also wanted to say a huge thank you for all the awesome and most importly, constructive advice you have given me in the past week. It's helped ALOT and also put things in perspective in my mind :) Will most up real pics ASAP.

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

I don't really feel like I can offer a good opinion. On one hand, I don't think anyone besides you will notice. On the other, since you notice and it bothers you, it does matter. I also think that it shouldn't be THAT hard to find an eye clean VS2. Hopefully, the experts have weighed in on that.

The end goal is that you LOVE your ring and if you don't, be tenacious until you have a stone that you love. Hugs...

Hi Septsparkle,

Funny you mention the appraiser thing, because I was just thinking of the same thing. I've never done an appraisal and have no idea how much it would cost me. But it makes sense that if I do an appraisal on sth I don't love, having an assaurance report isn't exactly going to convince me otherwise.

Having said that, if bf insists, or if the 2 of us have extremely divergent views, then we'll most likely go ahead with the appraisal as a final decision point. :errrr:

Men are sometimes very stubborn for no good reason! :((

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

I'm not allowed to do too much commenting on a particular stone but could the indented natural be reflecting and that show up in the pic? Remember that pics filter alot of the light and refraction and cause inclusions to be much more visible.....magnification or not. Am I allowed to make this comment? I swear I have no idea who the dealer is and am not taking a side....just commenting on the cert. :)

Hi Yenny,

You do have good thoughts! I really hope you know just how tough you really are in doing all that you are in standing up for yourself. I am not an assertive person, and I think if I were in your situation, I would be too intimidated to do what you are doing. So :appl: to your courage and persistence! God knows it took several rounds of ph calls and alot of apologising (from me!) to tell the jeweller their refund policy was different to what they were telling me that I could only exchange! I didn't even dare ask for an extended refund period even though I was only going to get the ring on thurs and my original refund period was due to expire on Sat!! (And believe me, it was not my fault they couldn't send the ring earlier either. They never acted on my first email confirmation, and apparently their engraver only works 2 hrs in the morning). I think I sounded like I was about to cry and repeated my dire situation so many times, the owner ended up feeling bad about it.

You are an example to us all Yenny. Please believe that!

Big hugs and praying that the stars will be aligned in your favour on the big day!

Hi Matt,

Yup, from what I understand, the inclusion is near the facet, so you actually see the inclusion + mirror images of the inclusions, thereby multiplying the amount of inclusions actually seen. I hope I made sense there!

Yours is going to be gi-normous too!! BTW, I love your mom! What a great coach! :D

Glad you have a generous and kind SIL - that's so important. I have a few, one who is narcissistic and competitive, which is tough.

We know you'll train your BF well. :praise:

I'm on the edge of my seat - please tell us what you think the minute you rip the box open!!!!

I guess my mum always regretted not getting a ring of her dreams. In fact, she didn't get an engagement ring. Hence, she is now channeling her desires through me. Not that I'm complaining :cheeky:

Will do! Ring hasn't been confirmed it has been shipped yet - am waiting for the owner to get back to me very soon or I'm going to start calling again.

Bf has said he will give it to me tomorrow - oh well, guess there will definitely be no element of surprise in this proposal, but in current circumstances, some other issues are at stake! Haha...I actually have images of logging on to PS first and foremost and then saying yes!!

You are of course welcome! If I could, I would buy a diamond every few months and love every second of the search and aquisition, but since the money tree in our yard does not seem to be producing right now, I like to live vicariously through others.

As to the love at first sight thing, maybe I was too strong there, but listen to your instincts. I am not sure how you are about decisions, but for me sometimes I need to sort of weigh the pros and cons of something a little, and then wiggle waggle back and forth before I know for sure something is *right* for me. But I will say, in my case, I got to my present beloved diamond via 3 upgrades -- yes three  --over the course of three years, and in each step along the way I knew each diamond was not "the one" almost immediately. The first starter stone I always knew was too small from the second I saw the diamond. The second stone was larger, though still smaller than I wanted, but K color and too tinted for my liking. My next stones was the same size but G color -- which I loved -- but SI2 clarity which I knew immediately bugged me. I waffled a lot about that last stone and thought I could get used to the clarity, but in the end I could not. Now I have the size I wanted all along, the clarity I like, and a nice high J that does not show tint at all to my sensitive eye, and with this diamond, I loved it immediately even though I would not have minded a G color if we could afford it :Up_to_something: . So my point is that you will know if the diamond is right for you. It does not need to be perfect, but if it is right, you will love it despite any "flaws" that may exist. BUT if the flaws bother you, listen to those doubts and move on.

Hello Dreamer_D,

Thank you for sharing your diamond journey with me, and I totally agree. I think in the pursuit for perfection, one must still be aware of their current financial situation and various other constraints and therefore set realistic expectations. I was telling bf today, if we had $100K of course I won't be happy with our current specs. But since we don't have $100k, then I will be happy with whatever we have gotten to the best of what our budget allows.

You are very lucky you have already gotten so many upgrades!! :praise: I have promised my bf that I will NOT be not be upgrading this stone due to the sentimental value attached to it. I have however, since PS'ing, discovering the beauty of other shapes ;))
I'm finding myself very inclined towards both the emerald cuts and AVC's!! Gosh...us women really have unending needs =)

I told him today if I ever wanted to get othe diamonds, it will be in other shapes and either as pendants, cocktail rings or RHRs. I think he was about to faint when I said that!

ETA: diamond has been shipped. So expecting it to arrive tomorrow!!

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Good luck. :)

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Good luck!

As to my upgrades, I started with a .8ct and worked up to a 1.7ct where I am now and will stay, but yes, I am lucky that my husband agreed that getting me the diamond I love was worth the effort and expense. If I was so fortunate to receive a beauty like you are getting off the bat, then I think no upgrades would have been required!

Re: diamond has been set - what do you think of the inclusio

Hi Guys,

Thank you all so very much ::)

I've learnt so much over the past week, it's incredible the amount of knowledge everyone possesses here.

@Dreamer_D: it did require a period of lengthy negotiation, but I was lucky in that his sister set the precedent by telling him she regretted getting a small diamond the minute she walked home with it, and that he should just go for the bigger size if that was what I wanted.

I'm very happy to hear that you are content with your diamond! As I've always believed, contentment is more important than actual material possession.

Hope to give you guys some good news very very soon!

p.s I think I will be bringing my wireless internet plug just so I can get on to PS as soon as I set my eyes on it!

Hi Guys,

First, I am now officially engaged!

Now, let's talk diamonds! (Sorry I really wanted to post earlier, but had no access to internet for 24hrs)

- the more I look at it, the more I love it!
- it is really bright and sparkly
- there are NO visible inclusions from the face up view
- you can see the arrows quite distinctly (but no hearts)
- the side view inclusions (2 actual pinpoints, 2 mirror images) are only visible if you are holding the stone next within 10cm of your eye and at certain angles, and they are actually very very small, but there nonetheless. I can definitely live with this.

All in all, I am actually very happy with the stone, esp since I'm loving it more by the min. So my final decision is to keep it!

I haven't yet had the time to do an appraisal on it, but I will be in the next few days.

I've also realised I'm more sensitive towards ct and colour than I realised or maybe it's because I've only been looking at blown up pictures of the stone, when I first saw it in real life, it felt alot smaller than I thought it would be.

I also only managed to take a few photos of the ring from and the quality is really bad (will try to put it up in SMTB) now. Just tried to upload here, but it said the file is too big.

Once again, I am really thankful to all of you guys for keeping me calm and giving me perceptive insight throughout this entire time! :praise:

Very very grateful for everyone's feedback and comments!
