Diamond experts,

I have been reading and still learning a lot from reading the forums.
Please give me your opinion on this vendor and this stone.
Has anyone work with them or bought from them?

Is this stone worth pursuing? I haven't ask for ASET image yet since I wanted your opinions first.
Should I be concerned about the extra facet? girdle ranging from thin-thick, is this too wide of a range?

Budget is between 10-15K. Is the price reasonable?
Please let me know if you find any other radiant cut stones that you think I should take a look at.
(The tricky part is that the color has to be F or better, clarity IF)

Thanks for any wisdom/help you may give me.

That second one from JA is IF? Because I can see a very large inclusion front and center!

I wouldn't buy from a vendor that doesn't supply pictures. Look at Good Old Gold as well as James Allen. Is IF essential for you? VS1 is extremely clean and so is VVS.

Julie N- I took a look at the links you sent me. Hoping to get a very good/excellent cut on the stone with about 1.20-1.30 carats. I know I should look at the measurements L X W to determine size, but family are stuck on carat weight.

Diamondseeker2006- IF at this point is essential. I am bucking family tradition by not buying a round brilliant or princess cut. The women would buy F color or better, IF clarity, if VVS, it will be VVS1. 95% typically get round, while 5% get princess. I want to show them that there are other diamonds just as beautiful. You should have seen the reaction when I wanted to get a blue sapphire instead.

Is this normal for prices to fluctuate so much?
I have been getting confused about how much I should pay. The range is so wide. My extended family even got
involved that they provided me several quotes from various jewelers. Once I took a look at all the certificates, I realized they were all getting quotes for the same diamond just from different jewelers. The price range was 8-16 thousand for 1 stone. See, this is why I am confused.

I have learned alot and still learning by reading all the posting on radiant cuts . I don't want to close my eyes and just pick something.

In addition, I am learning about all the other shapes too. This is such a great website. You guys are great by lending your expertise to non-experts like me.

great advice. You really cant buy cushions by the numbers- you need pics, ASET images, etc

Hey, Maddie! The "Good" cut designation is based on depth and table, which is a pretty crude way of determining cut quailty. I think they are pretty attractive, but you would need to email James Allen for the ASET images to check that out... I am going to have to say that cut is the number one quality for a stone to show the maximum beauty. There are a massive number of radiant cuts that are not superior cuts (and every other shape as well). By limiting yourself to IF only, you are going to make it very, very difficult to find a stone. You will likely end up with one that is less well cut than you could find if you'd at least expand into VVS.

Round brilliants do face up larger than most other stones, so you may need to jump up in carat weight to get a stone that looks as large as a round. There are some amazing radiants out there, but truly, they are hard to find.

This is an example of a gorgeous cut, but they don't have any with high color and clarity. I am just showing you the variation in radiant cuts:

Thank you. I have looked at asscher, but bf doesn't like the look of emeralds or asscher. I am trying to branch out on the clarity. I found a stone, but the jeweler told me I had to put a down payment to bring the stone in for viewing. The down payment isn't refundable and jeweler havent seen stone eiher. I have never heard of this practice, so I said know. I was flabbergasted :(

Maddie, you did the right thing about refusing a non-refundable deposit just to call in a stone to look at. Some vendors do require payment for the shipping if you don't buy the stone, but that should be all.

I can recommend working with Good Old Gold because they specialize in well cut stones in many shapes. They measure light performance to be sure you are getting a well cut stone. Just to give you an example, they made this video for me of a few stones the other day. I have bought several diamonds this way.

I am in the US so am not familiar with accessing stones from Hong Kong or Tel Aviv.

Thanks Diamondseeker, for your guidance. I am glad I didn't do it. I learned a lot from looking at good old gold video.

John, for educational purposes, would the diamond be cut differently in tel aviv compared to hong kong? Would price varies?

Also, I have good news. I might be close to buying a stone. It looked beautiful to the eyes, but wasn't able to get Aset.

Maddie,

In terms of shape there's a growing market for new proprietary cuts in HK/China right now so a piece of rough suitable for a radiant might become a similar but newer design over there. If the choice was strictly between a square radiant or a round it would most likely become a round, since over 95% of diamonds sold there are RB. As for prices; the global wholesale market is very similar all-around (with some variances in taxes of course). Consumers are paying slightly more in Asia than in other world markets right now.

Jaebond: Yes, I am more interested in a rectangular shape than square. Ratio I have been looking at is 1.17 to 1.24:1

You might consider contacting Brian Gavin Diamonds and seeing if they can design a diamond for you. I don't know what kind of price is associated with this service.
