I was wondering about the orientation thing you posted about the princess and the round.

Do you know if that applies to asschers too? I have a 6x6 asscher-- it looks small to me. Visually would I get any sense that my diamond is bigger if I set it offset like <>? It''s a very square asscher with very small corners.

I wondered that too after seeing the princess/round orientation. If it''s alright Gypsy, can we see if the EXPERTS will clarify the asscher question AND cushion (say, a square)??

Sounds great to me... Paul is around here somewhere I am hoping he''ll chime in...

Are you ladies referring to the actual spread factor of squares in relation to rounds?

Rhino-- I talked to Tim and Marie about a Richard Landi setting that I would want my asscher set <> like a kite in. But I decided against the setting because it won't make my asscher look bigger. And I thought a baguette halo would be better for that. But DiamondExpert posted two pictures of princesses-- one set like a square, one set like a kite. Same diamond looked bigger set like a kite... and I was wondering if perhaps if setting my asscher like a kite would do anything to make it look bigger.

I thought the problem was the that I don't like asschers... but I tried on a 1.5 carat asscher today-- it was more octagonal than mine (mine is very square with small clipped corners) and larger and I was in love... it was perfect. I really love the Richard Landi setting-- but I also want my asscher to look bigger. .4 carats bigger...lol. Mine is 5.86 x 5.87.

And we were also wondering is setting a square 1.00 ratio cushion like a kite would have the effect of making it look bigger too.

gypsy,
if your asscher could be, would be, should be set on point, or starset....it would appear bigger!

I wish I had decent software to do that with. Okay... I like the way that looks. THANKS BELLE!

Ok ... looking at those 2 settings and also looking at and photographing 2 comparable sized Asscher and Round (around the same size, pix attached below) here are my thoughts.

If you''re after more real estate on the finger then the bagutte halo.

If however you''re really looking to maximize the look/size of the diamond and keep with more of a *solitaire* look, really accentuating the center stone then perhaps the Landi mounting since main emphasis is placed on teh center stone. Below are side by side shots of a 1.32ct Asscher alongside a 1.33ct H&A round. You can see when the Asscher is oriented in a corner to corner fashion instead of side to side it increases the overall look of the stone.

Hrm... can''t attach pix.

one more try. ARGH!!! Can''t do for some silly reason.

It''s okay if you can''t post pics... you voted for the baguette halo...lol. That''s what counts most.

THANK YOU JONATHAN!

Thanks Bell and Rhino!

The tilting of the asscher 45 degrees, does make it look larger. Could I bother you to do that w/ a cushion of equal ''carat'' (and assuming cut well--good proportions, not too deep/shallow) with a square cushion?

Jonathan emailed the asscher comparision pics... so I thought I would post them here to help others who want to see... These are the 1.33 round and the 1.32 asscher.

Snooper, I''m sure you can call him and ask him for the comparision. Everyone I''ve talked to at GOG has been wonderful.

Thanks Gypsy, I shall!

Gypsy.it''s amazing how the eye plays tricks and makes it look bigger that way...........Have you decided on a setting?????

Short of upgrading... I will go with the baguette halo. I am trying to see if I want the halo straight on or offset though. If I set it offset... it may even look BIGGER!

Hmmmmmmmmm..........what about the 2.26 at GOG????

That might be available if Isaku gets the pink pear........
2.gif

LOL...WAY out of my budget. But it's a beautiful diamond.

If I upgraded I'd have to consign my stone somewhere-- it's a good GIA asscher so I could. Then I'd have to get a new one...I would probably only have around 8-9K to budget for that. I'd want to get either a square cushion... or a large asscher with bigger corners. G VS for the asscher and as big as I could get in mm size. G SI1 eyeclean for the cushion.

But that's not on the table. And honestly... I'm not sure I'd want to go ringless for that amount of time... and... well. Everyone loves the halo... and I do want to see how it turns out. My setting is really terrible right now... so I think that contributes big time to my DSS.

SO... HALO!

ETA: I tried on a G VVS1 1.52 carat asscher at costco today it was a little over 9K and had lovely corners. Looked just perfect on my hand in terms of size. The setting was YG... but the head was platinum and the prongs were flat so they really set the asscher off well.

Jade... how have you been? Heartburn still bothering you?

I talked to Jonathan today... he has my email now because I was asking him about the halo setting he''s going to get back to me later this weekend on some questions I had. He was just great to talk to, really nice and patient. I can see why you like him so much. I know you are working with him for your new diamond... and with my experience there to date.... I would LOVE to work with him on a project. How is the diamond search going?

Wow offsetting the asscher really makes a difference eh?

So now the halo is back in the equation? *HEHEHE* why does that scenario sound familiar to me
3.gif

Did u find out if u can set a custom cut colored stone into the halo if u decide after getting the ring made that you want a bigger asscher instead

Hello!

I was about to go and have a nap
24.gif

Yes Jon is awesome, that's why I keep going back to him. I love diamonds, but when it comes to diamond specs, I prefer to let Jon find great stones for me because I am terrible at remember all those ideal proportions, the different combos of the angles, etc etc, so Jon is perfect because he knows so much and always has time to explain anything I want to know.

Diamond search is still going strong. I was watching the exchange rates for the US dollar and decided I am not gonna wait anymore, so I have wired money in advance to GOG for my next stone
2.gif
, otherwise I might have to pay more money next wk when the US dollar goes up again
7.gif
Can anyone say "KEEN"

ETA: Heartburn still happening, but I am taking antacids for it, so it's not so bad.

Go nap hon. It's my bedtime anyway... I would totally let him find a diamond for me. And would TOTALLY love to...lol. Smart move with the money! Makes perfect sense to me... Glad to hear the heartburn is undercontrol. And your paws are very nice... pretty skin too! Not furry like mine. I've got much too much fur going on. Freaking middle eastern ancestry.
20.gif
. I haven't had the chance to talk to you much... so I thought I'd call you over here to check in and see how you are doing. You should go take that nap though... and we can chat another time?

Oohh i am getting worked up now over another thread I''m in.

*grrrr*

Yah, with the money - my hubby was like, ''Ok so we have paid for a stone which technically doesn''t exist, or hasn''t been found yet.''
41.gif

I''ve been busy past couple of days, so I haven''t been on here much. Thanks for the kind words about my paws
2.gif
, and don''t be silly, u have nice paws!

I have depilatory issues. Want my whole body-- from my eyebrows down laser hair removed.

I know you are getting worked up. I read it. And I can see why. Felt I should step in... but, well TG jumped in right then... and I figured I'd just see what happened after that.

Deep breaths.
7.gif

ETA: LOL at hubby... my DF would react exactly the same way!

Ooohh yes I was reading abt the laser hair removal thread - would love to get that done too!

Ok I''m going to have a calming cup of camomile tea and try to have a nap. Speak to u later *hugs*

Hugs back. I''m off to bed. Gonna dream of 1.5 G vvs asschers and laser hair removal. LOL.

Hi Snooper,

Just returning from our weekend. I don''t happen to have any traditional square cushions on hand at the moment but I could do it with a Square H&A stone. They''re described as cushions on the GIA Report if you think that would help?

Regards,

So Gypsy, are you looking for a square cushion? ::whew:: we won''t be competing for the same stone! hahahaha ;) I''m just giving my oval some shoulders and a better cut ;)

Ooooh I like that! I like that better than a traditional setting! And if it was very octogon that would be so cool!
