Lawmax has given good advice.
However you can do your own tests on the G SI1. Compare it to a certified stone of much higher color.
If it appears off white it is probably a GIA H color.Examine the inclusion under magnification, and then when you know the position, with good light see if you can spot them with your naked eye. If you can then the stone is probably SI2.If the stone passes these tests and you dont plan to resell it, then you will never need worry again - have Great-grandchildren and they can sell it - the certificate will be lost by then anyway.

Just make sure that you are paying for what you are actually getting.

Also, be sure to get the store's return policy in writing along with the detailed grading report for your stone. Make sure the receipt for the purchase matches the lab certificate. It would be a good idea to take the diamond to an independent appraiser (one who does not sell diamonds) during the allowed return period.

Hi dimndgrl59,Garry/cut nut is Garry Holloway, the creator of the Holloway Cut Adviser! It's good that your jeweler has the OGI machine. The one question I would have has to do with the fact that IGI lab grading reports are not known to be as reliable many times as a GIA or AGS report. They are used primarily by "mall" type stores. With that said, it may be possible that if they are less stringent in their grading, the color, clarity and fluorescence grading may be off. This is ok if you don't mind and you love the diamonds. The question is how the price is affected. There are big price jumps for different color and clarity grades. You can ask the store to send the diamond to GIA and make a deal with them that, if the diamond comes back with the same grading, you will pay their cost for the GIA report. Their cost shouldn't be much. If it does not come back the same, you can decide to either shop elsewhere or negotiate the price of the stone. You should try to see the diamonds in natural lighting. What kind of store are you shopping in? Mall, chain store, independent jeweler, pawn shop, etc.? Mark-ups will vary.I don't have a comparison of brick and mortar prices for you. You can do a search at pricescope if you want to compare the prices you are seeing to internet prices, which may be lower. But, remember that prices are higher for GIA and AGS stones (especially for AGS).There are some stores listed that are both internet and brick and mortars.Hope this helps.

TVP...See Holloway Cut advisor
Total Visual Performance....rating
$13,776 fair price for the 1.68 H/A stone?
Also, sales person analyzed the stone on their in-house OGI machine. Supposedly accuracy is like Sarin machine???
Hey Cut Nut/Garry...no, we were NOT DESPERATE to have a 2ct stone as you implied--The store owner was on site and simply showed them to us---JEEZ!!! He did however mention it being "tax-time"..."no better time to buy a loose stone." He has had both 2ct stones since Xmas...wants them sold etc.

So you know which stone you should buy.
The girdle is neither here nor there - I would have no problem with that - it is insurance against chiping and breakage and will not touch the brilliance.
Garry
PS What does TVP mean?
Did you really want a 2ct badly enough to take the SI2?

Thanks for the advice all--on the 1.68ct H/A!
Just got a fax from diamond place...There IS a GIA cert for this stone (which they faxed).
This place does not advertise etc. It is upstairs in a bank bldg. in an office kind of space--you ring the doorbell and are "buzzed" in...
Small space.... but nice stones and lots of custom work going on. The owner/broker/dealer(?) was there as well as kind of a #2 guy and 2-3 sales type folks---overhead MUST be lower???
This cert says 1.68, 61.8%, 57%,thin-sl thk,
none, good, good, SI1, G, none w/ an OGI crn angle33.1 and pavil 43.2%. Price $13,776--
Cash--no tax...different state.
FAIR price or ????
Sales person said yesterday the stone was indeed a "Hearts/Arrows" ...should there also be documentation or another cert verifying that fact?? We asked that ALL info be faxed and the only document they sent was the GIA cert--should there be more?
ALSO, looking at an ALMOST identical GIA certd' stone at an internet site--measurements etc. are incredibly similar but...The internet co. stone is a 1.63, an "E" in color instead of "G", polish/symm are EX instead of GOOD, and cut is listed as "Ideal" intead of H/A. Price $14,490.
Can anyone tell us which way to go on this--internet stone "sounds" so much nicer for $7-800 dollars more...no tax etc. again.
I'm sure we sound really "DUH"-like and logically you'd think we'd be able to figure it out but....need your help!!
Thanx!!!!!!

Sorry--me again!
Just posted another quick question and then went directly to check the "parameters for grading" H/A in the tutorial section. Should have read it BEFORE my last post--oops!
According to this, there is no way this can actually be a H/A stamp issued stone cuz the GIA cert cut grade is listed as only "good", not VG or EX as required. Is this diamond dude not trustworthy etc or did WE mis-interpret the parameters??
Thanks again!!!!!!
