Diamond evaluation

Hi Funky and welcome!

You hit a home run, this diamond's superb. I can't see the hearts image for it which would be nice but from what I can tell, it's going to be stunning.

Absolutely classic setting too, it's going to be perfect.

Great job!!! Can’t wait to see the finished ring! Do come back & post pre-proposal, and post-proposal photos....we love to see before & after (esp. AFTER)!! Clog your blog with hand shots, when she says, “YES”!!! :mrgreen2:

Clog your blog??? Lol, brilliant!!

@Funkywunky , A beautifully cut stone and setting.

From one BGD stone owner (well they’re my wife’s technically...) to another, congrats and all the best for the proposal.

Beautiful combo!

Congrats!..:clap:Beautiful stone!.... I expect nothing less from BGD

Thank you for you encouraging reactions. I'm worrying the diamond is a little overpriced though... can you comment on the price of Brian Gavin diamonds vs. other retailers?

And can you give an opinion on this diamond:

It's a lovely diamond but not up to the standards for cut precision as the BG stone. BG's pricing is in line with the other vendors of the true Superideals and also, if you want to ever upgrade, Enchanted Diamonds want you to purchase a stone at least twice the price of the original, whereas BG does not.

For me, I'd go with BG in this instance, no contest, but it depends if you'd rather go a little cheaper now and you're happy to do that.

Congrats on your upcoming engagement!

The original bg you chose is gorgeous!

Perfect stone! Perfect setting! Congratulations! And All the best!:appl:

I'm in the process of pulling a trigger on a BGD as well. I noticed yours is part of the Black signature collection. Not sure if you read up on that or not, but basically it is Brian's proprietary cutting technique which he feels is his most superior cut to date.

On the second page linked below, he compares this to an American Express platinum or black card. The black is the most elite but platinum is still superb. Sticking with this analogy (and assuming you agree with his philosophy) you cannot truly compare the Black series diamond to another on the market as he does take additional measures to cut a certain way for it to be part of the Black signature series.

If you are looking to save a few dollars, you can look at the Blue series. It (carefully) uses fluorescence to give you an ideal cut while saving money. Be sure to watch the YouTube video of this Blue series diamond. FYI, many people actually seek out and prefer the well done flour diamonds like the Blue series.

For the reasons noted above, I believe you are getting a fair price for an elite diamond. If you want a less elite diamond you have other options. If you still want a BGD stone and would like to save a few bucks then consider the Blue line.
