So I''ve just been put up to a new task....my mother''s boyfriend has just informed me that he wants to buy my mother diamond stud earrings for Valentine''s Day. It''s kinda short notice but I think it can done; however, I need some info. I have been doing a lot of research on here regarding e-rings especially here on PS, but I need to know if the same rules apply to earrings(in terms of cut, color, clarity, size). His price range is $1200-$1500. I know that she wants round with the screw on back(that may actually have another name). They must also be set in white gold. What size do you think I can get for that budget that are of good quality. Any info that you can share will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

I was just looking at these - they sound like what you are looking for. (my english is shocking!) Anyway take a look, they are have more than these so have a browse

I'd put two of these three (maybe (1and3) or (2and3))

together to come in at the low end of the budget.

Plus, they're upgradable.

Let's see, rules for earrings. You can go lower clarity and lower color, because no one can see the sides of the stone or will look close for inclusions. Also, they're usually small, so color and clarity characteristics are less visible to begin with. No one will look closely, so you can go shallower, which may give you bigger stones. And again, since no one will be looking closely, you don't need super hairsplitting.
