Hi all,

Could you please have a look at the dimensions of these 2 diamonds and give me an opinion on if they appear good stones along with a ball park figure on cost?

I realize it is difficult to give mega accurate opinions just from dimensions but it was more if anything comes up as alarming that I was interested in!

Stone 1

Carat weight 0.45 Total Depth: 63.8%

Cut Very good Table Width: 58%

Colour F

Clarity Si1

Measurements 4.82 X 4.84 X 3.08 mm

Both are GIA cert''d stones. Florescence none on either.

Stone 2

Carat weight 0.49 Total Depth: 59.4%

Cut Very good Table Width: 60%

Colour F

Clarity Si1

Measurements 5.11 x 5.20 x 3.06 mm * polish & symmetry are both listed as V.G.*

Many thanks for any help.

First stone is much too deep to be of any good in cut.

Can you post the second stone''s crown and pavilion angles, also the star and lower half number and girdle variation.

Hi Chrome, pass on the first one as it has way too much depth.

The following info is also needed so we can help you with the second diamond -

crown and pavilion angles
girdle thickness
star and lower girdle facet percentages.

If you could post that info then we can go from there. The second diamond has proportions with the table size which come under the 60 60 category ( 60% depth, 60% table) that is fine as some love that look but you might also want to consider some with a smaller table.

Looks promising by the numbers.

Can you post an Idealscope/ASET image of the stone?

Hi Chrome

That is helpful. An Idealscope image is essential for this diamond, it is borderline shallow and because of this might show an effect called obstruction, this is where a diamond darkens when viewed closely due to the shadow of the viewer's head/ body blocking the light to the stone. Now, because GIA round the numbers it might not be a problem depending on what these angles actually are, but it is something to keep in mind. An Idealscope image would be helpful if you can get one, also does the vendor have this diamond in house?

Also being SI1 clarity with a grade setting cloud, check this isn't impacting performance by asking the vendor to check it out.
