Hi,

I am a rookie, so bear with me...

I am talking with a local jeweler and he suggests getting a "Good Premium" cut vs an "ideal" cut. What does he mean by this and should I insist on an Ideal cut. I am looking to buy an E,F or G Vs1 1.3ct. My budget is around 8.5K (diamond only), what should I be looking for? Is this a realistic price range? Do I need to get all the reports from him? (GIA, Sarin, etc).

Thanks

What does ht ejeweler mean by "good" "premiun" and "ideal" - there is no standard definition behind these terms

Without some explanation of what those words stand for, it is hard to know what to compare with what to evaluate the price offer

Given that it takes very little change in cut to turn an "ideal" into a dog... if someone tells me, you know, these "premium" are within 10% range of table and depth from the "ideal" range it really doesn't tell me anything about what te stones look like. So there better be some background behind those grades

About reports... It wuld be best to have some direct test of brilliance (rather then numbers, such as on the Sarin report) if you want to know how a non-ideal looks like.

There should be room for an AGS0 stone with the respective specs in the given budget, BTW.

Speaking of price... the premium on H&A stones seem to push the limit a bit (Example and Another) but there is room for an AGS Ideal cut (Example)
