Ok so I took your advice and went to ID Jewelry to check for some diamond studs..everything I've read on here has been spot on, the diamonds they carry are magnificent!

The owner (father of Yekutial) offered me $1000 for my .90 diamond studs which was a bit shocking to me considering that the cut is just good. Julia showed me some stones that were somewhere in the budget but they're AIG certified. I wanted to know what you all think of them and what I should do..they were 1.47 ctw, excellent cut, F-G color, xxx. I inspected them and saw the inclusion which isn't bad and of course not even visible to the naked eye, and to be honest, they're BEAUTIFUL. She offered them for $3200 (without the trade ins!) Now for GIA ccertified stones she said the $4400 for 1.40 ctw with H clarity, excellent cut, xxx.

Now of course I'm so tempted to go with the AIG cetified stones but I'm a bit leery for some reason, my first pair were GIA certified. Please help!! How valid is the AIG cert compared to GIA? Why is there such a price discrepancy?

BTW I LOVE this board!

AIG certification is something I'm not familiar with at all - did she by chance say AGS certified?

I'm almost positive that she said AIG (I wrote everything down). I'll give them a call to verify and will report back.

Ok so I just called, it was AGI, not AIG.. But I still have the same question.

If they fit in your budget better and you love them go for them.

I do, however I just want to be certain the the quality is up to par and I want good paperwork on them.

AGI is simply an independent appraiser, NOT an internationally recognized lab like AGS or GIA. While fine to have secondary analysis from them, that's not the only paperwork I would want with any stone.

So, here are the economics.

FG - graded by AGI costs $3,200.-
H - graded by GIA costs $4,400.-

Getting 2 diamonds graded by GIA in this size costs less than $200.-

Is it safe to assume, based on economics then, that if these so-called FG are actually H with GIA, a person with a shred of intelligence would get them graded by GIA, with a net-profit of $1,000.-?

You may consider the so-called FG fine for you, in which case do buy them, but simply be aware that you are not buying what the paper is claiming the diamonds to be.

Live long,

So the AGI certified diamonds are overestimated? See I thought ID Jewelry carried good quality stuff based on all the reviews I read, that's why I didn't feel as leery compared to how I felt at Anter Jewelry. However I don't want to be bamboozled with a dud either.

If the stones are really SI2, H-I, excellent cut, then I'm fine with that, however there's no way for me to truly know.

It is so hard I went through this just about a year ago. I paid $8,500 plus my studs or so (traded in my (1.80) and got 2.41 EGL international F color si1 stones.

I knew that it was at least 2-6 grade levels difference between EGL international and GIA. that being said I had the stones in my hands they were gorgous. I didn't want to send them to be GIA certified and they were willing to lay away with other gold I had to sell. So all together I ended up getting EGL international studs

So I absolutely love them . Do I get freaked out every once in a while that they aren't GIa yes. But I do love them . But when people on PS ask me what the specs are I feel that I have to announce they are EGL or I just say I-J Si2. But I don't really know I just love my studs.

SO pay the extra and get the GIA becausee you'll know what you have and never second guess them. Funny February 7 I am taking my ering to GIA and plan to stop at IDJ for earring jackets

sorry my original studs were 2.05 poorly cut i-J si1
