Diamond comes with a blue inclusion

Hi all,

I need your advice on the following:

Two weeks ago I ordered a stone at Blue Nile (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/diamond-with-a-budget-around-%E2%82%AC550.216299/)

The stone has arrived today. It looks great, but there is also some sort of blue inclusion in the stone. As this is the first stone I have ever ordered, can you please advice if this is normal for such a stone or do I have to send it back?

Some pictures:

Are you talking about the blue sliver at about 11:00 in the diamond? Does it move around when you move the diamond? If so, that's fire and it's a good thing! Diamonds reflect light and sparkle. They reflect their environment and can show rainbows of colours, like a prism. Sometimes it's yellow or red or blue. I purposely make mine dance around in indirect sunlight to get the colours, they're so pretty!

No, I think he is talking about that dark blue spot. It's like a sapphire color. Not the lighter, sky blue, I could be wrong.

Hi,

I find it difficult to get a good picture, will try to make some additional with a DSR-camera.

It's about the black/blue dot. It is is clearly visible, even when looking from above.

Is it a marker stain? Can you try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol?

 Is that the voice of experience? or just wisdom? : )
I try to make things easier by always buying diamonds bigger than the holes in the sink drain...

That's exactly what I said to my DH! He saw me scrubbing my earrings over the kitchen sink at work and commented that I must be awfully brave... and I pointed out that they wouldn't fit through the drain-cover holes even if I dropped them. Oddly, that didn't seem to make him feel any better about the whole diamonds thing...

Imagine if it is a bit of blue diamond trapped! Hopefully one of the appraisers may chime in.

Extremely unlikely to be a bright blue inclusion. Is there a cert?

Looks like it might be a blue marker to me. There are various reasons why a diamond might be marked like that in the shop. Sometimes it is to identify the position an inscription so that the setter does not put a prong over it. There are other reasons too, but a diamond should never go out to a customer like that. It reflects on the vendor's quality control system.

If it is a marker it should wipe off with alcohol as another poster said.

I posted on here recently that I got an eternity diamond band with ONE purple stone....

turned out it was marker ;-)

See if it comes off (not over the sink), and if not, send it back!

I agree with Bryan- plus the fact that it's blue makes it more likely someone just smudged it with a pen sometime after QC.
DO NOT go in the ocean to wash it off:)

Well darn y'all! I was hoping to see a true blue inclusion - that would be extremely cool!

Since it's unlikely though - OP, put that puppy on a nicely padded, soft surface, and try cleaning it with a cotton-tipped q-tip and alcohol.

I tried that too, but I don't have but one big 2 inch diameter hole for a sink, no screen. It started to get expensive.

I was all excited to see a blue inclusion too. :appl:

BelDia I hope it turns out to be a marker that rubs off with alcohol.

Most likely to be a marker, but a true blue inclusion would be very cool!

Hi all,

Sorry for my belated reply, I did try to remove the blue dot with some alcohol. After some rubbing the blue 'inclusion' has disappeared.

Thanks all for your advice!
