Hi
Just wondering for a pair of earrings, my natural inclination is to go as white as possible, ie probably an F colour.
However, I started to wonder, if a softer white would go better with my skin tone next to my face eg a softer H or an I, does anyone know what I mean? Do you think the icy white can be a bit harsh next to some face skin tones, or it wont matter at all. i usually wear gold earrings, so am used to a softer warmer colour next to my skin IYKWIM. So, anyway, if you have any thoughts let me know. Ohh the many dilemas in deciding which pair of earrings to get, I am starting to think that the researching is half the fun.

Some thoughts:

1. I''m not sure if you''re talking about stud earrings or dangly ones, but the latter will absorb a bit of color from your face anyway.

2. Do you want your diamonds to stand out, or blend in? (Surely stand out!)

3. An F color still has a warm undertone, so I can''t imagine it would clash with your skin. I think people with the cooler skin undertones would have the problems, if anyone.

thanks,
I am considering studs (maybey with a bezel setting).

My skin tone is very funny, I can easily look very washed out and pale, that is why I had my question. Size wise not too big, probably .40 carats each side. I have fairly small earlobes and this is plenty big enough for the UK.

I purchased 0.85 ctw J SI1s for diamond studs. Besides saving $$$ I figured that if the diamonds were less than icy white, it would be perfectly fine next to my face. They have "ideal" cut proportions so the white light return is fantastic. And what you really see from a distance is the light return due to the excellent cut.

I wear an F VS2 for my ring, but I think the sweet spot for studs is all the way down to J SI1. Pictures of my studs can be found here. Link

This is something I think about too. I find the look of a very white diamond a bit hard on me. I am very pale and the stone contrasts a lot. If I got studs I do believe I would get a lower grade in color b/c I think it would look softer next to my skin. H-I-J color sounds very nice to me.

As it is, I tend to wear pearl earrings most often as I like their soft glow.

I agree that you can go down in color for earrings. I bought a pair of ACA, I, VS2, .70twc and I love them! I wear an F color diamond in my ering but I''ll totally happy with my I colored studs. I don''t notice the warmer color when wearing them. Pictures here.

Thanks,

I am so glad that someoneunderstand what I mean, it just seems a bit weird to go down the colour grade, when certainly for me it is usually how high up can I go. Will have to have a look at some softer whites to see how they are in real life.
My eternity ring is a very white f-g and that just seem to harsh for my face, but great for my hands

I was wondering about the size as large diamonds may make more of a difference ( 1ct and up each) than smaller ones regarding how the colour grade looks against your skin.

Also in that size of around .40, I wouldn''t hesitate to get well cut J''s if available, they should look plenty white!

I was thinking the same thing today, comparing my F coloured .5ct studs with my .90ct K coloured solitaire. I actually think it has a lot to do with the size of the diamond studs. If you''re getting small-ish ones, the whiter the better so that they really stand out. If you''re getting larger ones, then you could probably go down in colour so that it''s more of a soft glow. Just my 2 cents'' worth
