View attachment 627618 I did a lot of reseach before buying a diamond from James Allen. My fiance helped to pick it out for her engagement ring. She wanted this one because we were looking to stay at around 5000-5300 for the diamond. The rep said that it was better suited for a pendant because of the angles, but she wanted it anyway. What do you guys thinks of the angles and cut? Will it look okay?

I agree with the Customer Service rep. This stone has a shallow crown and as a 60/60 style, it will limit fire. It may be quite brilliant, but lack fire.

I'm at work, but another PS member will pop over to give you some alternatives. If not, I can do so after work (in about 8 hours).

Thanks for the reply rockysalamander. I know that I am new here and only have 1 post, which is probably why no one wants to reply to my thread. I really appeciate your comment as I know very little about diamonds. What do you mean by it might be brilliant, but lack fire. I know that the angles and dimensions affect how it sparkles I guess.

Hi Mike,
I tried finding something in your range and the best that came up were the ones below...

https://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/l...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4938594

If you find any of these good, please put it on hold and request for aset/IS images and post them here for checking on any light leakages. Also for SI clarity ones please check with JA if they are eye clean.

Also contact IDJ.com and check what they can come up in your requirements, let them know you are looking for "Pricescope standard" diamonds.

I'll see if I can find anything else in a few hours. Which setting did you choose?

Brilliance is white light return. Fire is pinpoint light return. We recommend you look for a balance of brilliance and fire.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4809224 {good angles. Bright and lively. Needs an IS due to the slightly higher depth at 64.5, but I love the chubby arrows. The main inclusions on the girdle should be covered by prongs if they are placed between the arrows - as I would; 6.39 mm}

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4872342 {I prefer this over 4809224 due to the less visible inclusions, but they are on the table so its a mixed blessing. Again, needs and IS; 6.39 mm}

Additional Options (some may push budget a bit)
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4893934 {the angles here are good and it has no visible inclusions. It is bigger than your choice, but slightly over your target budget. But, if the IS looks good and the gemologist said that clouds are not an issue - which I'm hopeful for...this would be a great option; 6.54 mm}

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4950469 {angles are good and while the HCA is under 1.0, it is not due to a low crown. I think this is worth and IS as the stone looks very clean and meets your brief for budget and size; 6.35 mm}

Of the JA options, I really like the 4950469, 4893934, and 4872342. JA will generally give you only 3 IS images per email the request originates. Do put your top 3 on hold ASAP and request the IS (idealscope) images.

If you are open to another vendor.
https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...AMONDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&action=newTab {This has great angles and clarity. BN will not provide an IS images, but you can see if IDJewelry in NY can get this stone and will price match for you. If so, you can get the diamond and setting from them. IDJ will shoot ASET on most stones; 6.38 mm}

https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-de...AMONDS&track=viewDiamondDetails&action=newTab {good angles and clarity. The clouds need to be reviewed by the gemologist, but they are generally not a common issue in VS2. I like the spread here at 6.37 mm}

If your budget has more flexibility, this would be a great option. WF has a very generous tradeup policy giving 100% of the cost toward an upgrade, so you can bump the size of the stone for an anniversary.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have learned a lot in the last few weeks about diamonds, but I will never know all that most of you know. I am just looking for something that will make the future wife happy. She wanted this one after doing more research on her own. She seems overly concerned about getting an SI1 diamond and knowing that more inclusions are there regardless if she can actually see them with her eyes. So she dropped to I color hoping this wouldn't make a huge difference. I hope it is better than her first choice. I changed the order from James Allen.

If you are open to a little under 1 carat and littlenover budget this is a beautiful diamond, super ideal. Although it maybe unpopular I would still consider stretching the budget and then saving by choosing a simple setting. Whiteflash’s upgrade policy is great. Just throwing it out there. I totally get the kind clean thing.

Hmmm. This is even closer to your budget.

This is really not better than your first choice. Its too deep. So, you are paying for diamond that is not spready enough. I'd recommend you look at 4950469, 4893934, and 4872342. If you don't want to request an IS, than 4872342 is a solid choice.

1ct, F, SI1, 2.6 HCA

The clarity grade of this stone is due to clouds not shown on the GIA cert which may cause milkiness/haziness. I would take this out of the running.

I would too, unless you're prepared to take it to an independent appraiser to be sure, there's other diamonds out there that might not have a problem and it's only a ' might' with this one.
