Oooh, It scores a ~4.7 on the HCA calculator... not very good....

Light Return: Good
Fire: Good
Scintillation: Good
Spread or diameter for weight: Very Good

You can probably do better than that -- how much was it?

D VS2 is a nice combo though!

Your concerns are warranted. This stone would probably be an E-F , SI1-2 if rated by the AGS or GIA. Keep that in mind when considering the price...

Isn''t that a little severe of an estimation Jake? My understanding was that EGL was comparable on color, but softer on inclusions to the GIA.

In any event.... I''d be more concerned about the cut and proportions of this diamond than the actual clarity rating....

God, isn''t it bad that EGL can use the term "Ideal Cut" and then the blurb about being cut to the proportions. I fell right for it... I was looking for colour and cut and then the other measures. I wonder what cut grade this would be with GIA?

Also, dosn''t the measurement suggest that the girdle is thick? even though it says its thin (or am I not reading it correctly)

I did get a good price for it, for here in the UK anyway, so I probably got my money worth rather than a great deal...and compared to retail prices I still got a good price

Sorry I forgot to say, it was £3150 diamond without ring. I was going to get from the USA, but time was of the essence.

I thought you posted after you bought this and said you were really happy with it.

''There seems to be many pros an cons for fluoresence, but overall I managed to get a 1 Carat that looks great for a very low price (for the UK anyway), so I will take the risk that fluoresence it not a big deal
) She is going to love it!''

What has changed your mind? Have you had it set yet?

3150 pounds is definitely a bit steep.

I''m not loving the HCA score either or the EGA certificate.

If time is of the essence, it may be worthwhile having a look at what''s available on WF or other US vendors anyhow (and they have some gorgeous 1Ct colourless ACA stones last time I looked). If you could talk to them about shipping options and organise a bank-wire, it wouldn''t really take ''that'' long? And you may also save time on the setting if you ask them to do it at the same time.

A setting can take a jeweller 4 weeks to do simply because of their backlog. I''ve read about stories on PS (can''t remember the link) where other people have had a very tight schedule and WF have accomodated them. You can only ask!

Heya. You''re right. Actually, all is done, set and complete (although there is a 30 day return no questions warranty).

I came back for one last "to be sure" before filing away the receipt etc, and stumbled upon the EGL issues. Actually, I (she) will stick with it anyway. We are not diamond specialists, and it looks fantastic (to me, and her - indeed I selected it out of a pool of 8, most more expensive, on eye looks alone). She just sees the diamond ^-^ and has no idea about them except that it is a D and VS.

I paid more than the US prices, but still 30% less than high street equivalent here in the UK (God, the high street here is expensive). I did a lot better than what what I would have done if I did not stumble upon these forums (I would have gone into a high street shop and selected one without any certifiacte or the shops own certificate!), and that was through 2 days research.

If she/we every get her an upgrade we will certainly be back without our doubled knowledge, and more time :)

Thanks everyone. I might keep in touch here as I now find diamonds facinating

All the best
