I am trying to understand how diamond calc and gem advisor work, on a non-technical level. It is my understanding that if a jeweler has a sarin and diamond calculator, they then can create a gem advisor file which could then be sent to the consumer. The consumer could then use gem advisor to view a simulation of the actual diamond he/she is inquiring about.

Is this at all acurate? Could someone please try to give us a better understanding of this?

Also, does it matter if the jeweler has the brilliant eye, or do they need the dia-scan model?

Can a consumer view the file using only the free download of gem advisor?

Yes a dealer can buy an upgrade software that builds a full 3D wireframe complete with any extra facets etc. from Sarin and this can be exported / imported into a DiamCalc2 stone complete with any stymmetry defects etc.

The DC2 can be viewed on the DC2 - but also can send a Gem Adiser file to anyone who downloads that free software. You as consumers can then view virtual Ideal-scopes, make movies play and do light return analysis etc etc.

Brilliant eye may do the job but the accuracy of the image might be a problem. Sarin Diascan and Diamension models are best.

OctoNus are working on an even simpler way to send the files to consumers :)

How many jewelers(all jewelers, or just those you see on pricescope) would you estimate have the ability to send files like this to a comsumer?

Why would a jeweler not have this? It seems like the best and easiest way to give the most accurate representation to a consumer before they have the diamond shipped for personal inspections! I would think that this would cut down on the time it would take to make the sale, and on the number of returned diamonds!

Hi Rook,

It is a service we currently offer for the asking. We use the MegaScope software and enter in the parameters manually into the DiamCalc software even down to the star and lower girdle facet details.

Gary ... Sarin sells software for the BrilliantEye for this? I emailed Fred and he said I can get an upgrade but by the sound of his email I think he was talking about a hardware upgrade ... not a software one. I'm currently awaiting on his email for more details. If the BrilliantEye can do it I'll let ya know how accurate or inaccurate it is since I generate live pictures of what the software is simulating. Should be interesting.

Peace,
Rhino

Thanks Rhino,

As a vendor and one who offers a great deal of information on your diamonds, especially compared to others, what are the drawbacks, and why do you think some companies do not do this? It would seem to be a great selling tool.
