Diamond Appraisal vs. EGL Cert Grading?

I recently purchased a sizable OEC stone from a private seller. It was uncerted, but came with an appraisal. I am wondering which is better (which will give me the most accurate results) - should I take it to a local appraiser, or should I have it graded by EGL?

I want to have a true assessment of the stone - not someone blowing smoke.

I would find a trusted appraiser here on PS, or I'd send it to GIA. I wouldn't bother with EGL, you won't be sure you've gotten that true assessment that you're looking for.

I agree. I think that you should have it independently appraised. You will want to do this anyway for insurance purposes and to confirm that the stone you received is the stone you purchased. I love I nice OEC!
