Diamond Appraisal Philadelphia Area

Hello,

I recently purchased an ER and am looking to have it insured, but before I do that I want to have it appraised. I've heard some members on here recommend David Atlas, but his office is a bit far from where I'm located. Has anyone ever heard of or used William B Coyle? His shop is literally 1 block from my apartment so it would be VERY convenient. He's a member of the NAJA. I just want to be sure he'll give me an honest appraisal before I take my ring there.

Jay, I would take the drive to meet with Dave.

Check me, but Mr. Coyle is probably the same as this guy:

and of course you may be fine, but the general recommendation is to not use an appraiser who sells to the general public. It looks like Mr. Coyle does that...ostensibly...providing him reasonable motivation to steer you away from your chosen option, and towards one he could sell you instead.

I live in Center City Philadelphia, and we went with Chris DiCamillo at AGA (on jeweler's row), and he has been wonderful to work with. You can read about him here, but I believe he trained with Dave Atlas before Dave left AGA.

Just FYI, we had him appraise and grade our unset stone (the cost for an AGA cert was only a little more than the appraisal cost, so we had it done just to see how it compared to the AGS cert--basically the same), and he will add the ring to the appraisal once it's done.
