Diamond Advice

Hello All,

So I have decided to purchase an engagement ring for my girlfriend and have been doing some research. I think I have narrowed it down to a few diamonds but would like some advice to make sure that I choose the right one.

Notes in red above about your choices. More importantly, has she seen J and K colored diamonds in person? They will not be icy white...more of an ivory white. Some people like or prefer this while others don't, especially in modern rounds. What kind of setting is this going into?

I'll have a quick look for you, too...any reason for such high clarity?

Are you sure about going down to a K colour? Stones will definitely show some tint at that point. That said, my favourite of your choices is the top one, it's AGS 0 which means it's already been checked for light performance and should be lovely, it also has some fluorescence which will help to mask colour. I'd avoid the IGI certified stones and the last one is cut quite deep, depth percent is 62.5, usually less that 62.3 is best.

How do you plan to set the stone?

To be honest I am not sure what she thinks about J or K colored, however I might have to go smaller for a lower color, which I am not sure I would want to do.

The reason I was looking at VS1 or better was because I dont really know how noticable some of the imperfections are in person, they are very noticable in the high quality pictures.

For the setting I was either thinking of something very simple like this:

If she hasn't seen colors in that range and you're planning on setting it in a solitaire, I'd personally recommend sticking to an I color or higher. You're also looking at highly magnified videos and images so of course you're going to see every inclusion but in real life, they're usually hard to spot even down to VS2/SI1 clarity grade (on a case by case basis). Are you open to other vendors? Yekutiel at ID Jewelry is great at working with and maximizing budgets. He could choose a stone that will definitely be eye clean and could also help with the setting so a one stop shop!

Other options I found...but you'll have to ask for images and IS or ASETs on both...

The 1.05 and 1.02 are very nice choices - ask James Allen if they could provide you with idealscopes for either. The other 2 have angles that aren't complimentary.
