Hi all

Some time reader and first time poster here. Lots of good advice on this board. I've narrowed down my search to this stone, at the top of my budget. I'd like something that is noticeably bigger than a carat and have narrowed the search to this 1.23c stone (HCA score 1.7, colour H, clarity SI1, no fluro, cut, polish and symmetry excellent). My only concern(s) are the two feathers that show up at bottom middle of photo. I've been advised by a reputable vendor that the stone is eye-clean. Your thoughts on this are appreciated. Would the imperfections impact on the brilliance of the stone or worse be potentially visible under normal circumstances. The setting is a six claw solitaire.

Thanks

Shock

No, the 2 feathers will not affect the brilliance.

Thanks tyty. Probably going to press the button on this then :)

On closer inspection the H&A looks dodgy :/

This is not a H&A stone.

If this was a H&A stone, it would likely cost more than what the vendor is asking for this. So unless you are deadset on wanting a super-ideal cut, this stone looks like a good 'un. Otherwise, if H&A is critically important for you, you may need to adjust your expectations to find a H&A stone within your budget.

Hi Shockolat,

Just for some clarification for you:

All diamonds show some form of a H&A pattern, but not all diamonds (even some with terrific light performance) will show what many consider a high-end H&A pattern.

They are actually two separate categories. A "Hearts and Arrows" diamond will show terrific symmetry. A well-cut diamond will show great light performance. While your odds for good light performance may go up with good symmetry, they are neither mutually inclusive nor mutually exclusive. Many people look for a diamond that has both, some consider only light performance, and I suppose a few people might accept a great "H&A" diamond with poor light performance.

Light performance images, then, are more crucial than the H&A pattern for many consumers in making a final decision.

Look for info on light performance as ASET or Ideal-Scope here:
