Hello PSers!

We just got married less than a week ago, and we got my new husband a 5mm palladium band from a reputable online vendor. After just a few days, with it barely being worn, there are so many scratches and nicks in it, in areas almost like it is chipped. Is this normal? I emailed customer service and they said they wanted to be sure we were happy with the ring, but that after time, the scratches will become less noticeable. Perhaps I am paranoid, but does anyone have experience like this with men's palladium bands? My band is platinum (my e-ring) and has far less wear on it even having worn it for over a year.

Thanks for any insight!

It can be normal depending on what his hand in coming in contact with. Anything that is harder than palladium will scratch it.

Could you post some photos of the band?

I am curious to see this too. In general, men tend to be more hands-on and the type of hands-on work done is "rough" so their rings will see far more wear & tear than a woman's ring.

Do you know what the alloy in it is? It will be 95% Pd and 5% something else.

Hi sherpagirl,

Is his band high polish or more of a brushed finish? If high polish, you will notice every single scratch for a while until the whole ring looks more brushed. You could try to have it polished, but it will always show scratches if high polish.

FWIW, my husband is very hard on rings... he got a 14K white gold brushed band with little "crevices" of high polish. It still looks brand new.
