I''m not buying anything right now. But I''ve started thinking about a right hand ring with an oval ( it would be nice if it could happen this year). Here''s my question. Do you think an oval would look good with round sidestones? I don''t think I''ve seen it done much, but I like the idea.

I haven''t seen them too much. I have an oval gemstone I need set in a ring; if I don''t do an east-west setting, I would do half moons. I think round sidestones with an east-west oval might be really interesting, but if the oval was going to be set north-south then I would definitely go with half moons rather than round. Just personal preference... if you like the look go for it.

I haven''t seen that either, but am thinking rounds would look nice as long as they are smaller than the oval. How about half moons? I did that with my oval RHR.

Like this? I know it isn't a diamond centre, but might give you an idea of size and proportion. The sides are .25 each and the centre is 1.6ct (I think - can't find the paperwork).

I like the two together, but if I was picking it out now, I'd probably go for oval sides.
Sorry, dreadful picture, but you get the idea (sapphire is blue and nicely cut in real life, honest!).

Jen, I love your ring. Thanks for posting the pic. Even though it''s a sapphire I can kind of imagine it as a diamond. I guess I have some time to think about it.
Not sure I like oval side stones for some reason. Half moons sound interesting. Hmmm...maybe pears?

Yes, I think pears would be my first choice with an oval! Get Leon Mege to make the setting!

Ooooh. Pears! Now that would be nice.

I have some blue sapphire pears currently set as earrings and I''m just itching to have them set as sidestones in a rhr, with a white rb centre. I was waiting until I could get the size of ACA centre I had in mind, but now I''m wondering about setting them with my 1.10 oval. Hmmm.

I''d be really interested to see what you pick, Innerkitten - this project has really got my wheels turning LOL!

Have you seen Ephemery1''s ? Hers is one of my favorite ovals - Thread

Wow, I''d never seen that one. What a beautiful ring.

I think the two rings posted above (with the round sides) are gorgeous, I could not really pictures it before seeing them.

Hi, I love either half-moons or traps as side stones to ovals. But I find that half moons only work if the oval is of a certain proportion, not too long nor too fat. Traps on the other hand, works well for most ovals, even longish ones. Half moons on the longish ovals look like ears, know what I mean?

Both of the above ovals with rounds work really well. I think it's the proportions.

Jen, Have you put your oval and sapphires sde by side to get an idea?

OT a little bit, Dana I like the round three stone ring in your avitar. Whats the size difference between the center and sidestones?

My ring is also Oval with round side stones...

Posh, Is that your e-ring? Pretty design. The yellow sapphire (I''m assuming) makes it unique :)
