Hey guys,

I just purchased a 2.15 radiant cut diamond. Very nervous about the purchase because it did cost me a pretty penny--- Anyway, I''m starting to think I may have made the wrong decision. I just recently read that the Depth % should be higher than the Table %.

The diamond I purchased has a 61.2% depth with a 67% Table? Is this diamond a leaker? Should I not have purchased it. Please let me know.

The "table should be smaller than the depth" concept is a way of making an educated guess about other characteristics of the stone, like crown height, if you don''t have the opportunity to see the stone. It means nothing in and of itself. When buying a stone where you have either had the opportunity to see the stone itself, or had available sarin information, it is not relevent. When buying a stone about which you have inadequate information, it will increase the odds that your stone is nice, since a stone with a smaller table is more likely to have sufficient crown height. Even then, it is indicative only of a liklihood. A stone with a table smaller than the depth can still have a crown which is too flat, it''s just less likely.

I went through the same thing you are. That is why I would not have purchased my GF''s radiant online. That being said hers is a little over a carat 69.5 Depth and 75 table. The thing is almost blinding in any type of light it is so brilliant and has so much fire, but when it''s out in the sunlight you almost need sunglasses to look at it

. I was really set that I wasn''t going to buy a radiant with depth lower than table, but when I actually started looking at stones in person this theory was basically worth zip. I would not have purchased a stone cut too deep, but for a few mm I don''t think it makes a difference

mkleibo......Sounds to me like you got a nice stone. When you consider the AGA cut grading chart on www.gemappraisers.com both the depth and table of your radiant cut achieve a very nice rating. Is it better to have a smaller table, sure. Is it critical, no. A smaller table generally dictates more sparkle or light return or brilliance in the diamond. So your diamond may have sparkled a litter more had it been a few percentage points lower in the table. That''s about it. As long as you think your diamond is beautiful than that''s all that matters. Good luck....

"If you search for a better diamond than you''ll always find one. At some point you''ll have to decide when the search is over and be content with what you''ve bought. There is no PERFECT diamond."
