Delurking and an inventory question!

Greetings, all!

First all, let me say thank you to pricescope.com and everyone in the community for making this place what it is! Buying something expensive is difficult enough when you know comparatively little about it--you guys take so much of the guesswork and trepidation out of it. So thanks! : )

I know for me, I was all proud of myself when I heard of bluenile.com and whiteflash.com and had read a little on their sites and then thought "Well now..I have it all figured out!" ..Then I stumbled on this place and after reading all the info here and using tools such as the HCA and the forums...well, I realized that I previously hadn''t a clue! I now understand why diamonds of seemingly equal metrics can be so different in price as one is an "ideal" cut with only lackluster brilliance and scintillation, and another is truly an ideal cut with amazing fire and brilliance! I actually feel like I can make an informed purchase!

So, onto my first question: I''m reading things about "site sales" and diamond inventories being lower during certain times of the year. And, while I''m not looking to make a purchase for at least a month or (possibly much longer), I''m just trying to figure out when the best time would be to find the best selections and prices. I''ve already determined that there is zero chance of me purchasing from a vendor not listed on pricescope, but I just want to know when optimal inventories are--or at least when low inventories aren''t. : )

I don''t know the answer, but I think it''s more like finding the ball park specs you want to get and keep looking until one pops up. There could be a huge inventory with nothing you''re interested in or a low inventory with the perfect stone. I guess what I''m saying is to start the search as soon as possible and wait for the right one to pop up in the search engine. I found a couple that looked good for me but they were sold ... I''ll certainly keep my eyes open for more like them. If you''re not looking for a specific size, I think that will make the search much easier.

Oh, yes, fair enough! And, believe me, I''m certainly looking! But, as I''m still absorbing information here and I''m also not in a dire rush, I''m more just trying to gauge what''s out there and for how much so that I''ll know just when I *have* found that perfect stone. : ) It''s just that if, for example, I found out that inventories were currently at their lowest, and, that in a few weeks they''d be at their highest, I''d know I can most effectively focus my energies then instead of completely obsessing--like I am--right now. : )

So glad you found us, isn''t it fun?!

As for inventory, I''m only really sure about a couple. Goodoldgold is ongoing, meaning they are constantly getting new stones in. Whiteflash gets a shipment about every 6 weeks.

However, any vendor can call in any stone you might find in the virtual listings. Or, if you find a vendor you think you want to work with, but they don''t have exactly what you want, just give them a call and let them know what you''re after, and they''ll start looking.
