Allycat: I wanted to let you know how much your words meant to me when I was feeling really, really down & responsible for her passing. Reading your best medical guess re: heart attack, rupture etc & how impossible it would have been to predict/treat gave me a bit of peace while I waited for more info. I really appreciate your taking the time to post that!

***LATEST UPDATE****
It looks like Ally's guess was likely correct. The further analysis came back showing a cardiac abnormality, thickened heart walls, that led them to conclude there was a sudden cardiac incident of some sort (clot, arrythmia, attack). No irregular heartbeat had ever been diagnosed in the past. There wasn't any way to see this coming. It was her time.

I've been feeling a bit better the last couple of days, and even more relieved with this news this morning. (Our recent fear was having some unknown toxic substance in our house & now that doesn't seem likely.)

Thanks again for all of your support! I may be tough snarky cookie but am a huge softie for the furry ones. I hadn't lost a pet since I was 12 years old, nearly thirty years ago. And this hit me hard. Every single comment & hug & passed pet waiting to welcome a tri-colored newcomer to the great beyond is appreciated more than I can express.

It''s good to know that this was something out of your control, and that that alone will bring its own kind of peace to this sad event.

She was lucky to have you; and as one who is owned by a cat, I can tell from her photo that she loved you very much. The look on her beautiful face spoke volumes of her affection for you. It was the look of a very contented, smitten kitty.

A very wise theologian once told me that, of course, we see our animals in heaven because they have souls too. I can''t argue with that logic.

deco - I''m very sorry for your loss, she was beautiful! I''m glad it wasn''t rabies, it is a big relief. I''m going to keep you in my prayers, and hope that there was no toxicity involved and maybe it was just a stroke/cardiac arrest issue. It''s always a challenge to lose a pet, they become members of our family, as well as friends. Hugs to you and yours!

It sounds like one of those devastating, but completely unpredictable and uncontrollable things that just happens in life. aw deco, I''m glad you can at least find some peace in knowing it wasn''t anything you all did. When we lost my childhood dog I swore I never wanted another pet b/c it was so painful for me. Of course years later after I was married with step-kids who wanted a puppy I just couldn''t resist b/c I have a huge love for the furry one''s too. They are apart of my family as your sweet kitty was of yours. But, I do believe they will be there in great beyond and we''ll see them again someday. I *have* to believe that...

Deco, I''m sorry, I don''t think I saw this thread before. I''m so sorry for your loss.

You gave Gracie an amazing life. One of the above posters is right, the look on her face is so full of love that there is no doubt in my mind that you were the best kitty mama she could ever have hoped for. She''s up there, romping and head bonking, and patiently waiting to be able to cuddle you again.

I appreciate folks checking in on me! And I''ll try to post more pictures sometime soon. Maybe when we commemorate her life by spreading her ashes around her fave places. (Our yard & a nearby field she loved to romp in when she was allowed outside -- before the coyotes moved into the neighborhood

Glad to know Gracie has new friends on the other side! I only hope she''s not bossing them around, like she did the troops around here.

P.s. -- its totally cool to move onto other, happier subjects on other happier, blingier threads. I''m so grateful for all the support when I needed it most! I don''t wanna keep being a big ol'' downer though -- or, gah, a drama queen.
