Thanks for the suggestion. I did look at some tension setting initially. I think they look very cool that you can see pretty much the whole profile view of the diamond. But I find that a bit too contemporary and also worry about how secure it holds the diamond.

So i think I'll stick with prong setting. So maybe diamondseeker is right. Ultimately, I'll be choosing one of the 4 or 6 prongs setting. Within 4/6 prongs setting, some do let you have a good profile view of the diamond, e.g. Vatche's royal crown.

Regarding the flame, I got a picture with the flame , and in this picture it seems that you can still see the profile view ok if there are no sidestones. But again, the picture is blown up, so maybe in real life, the holes are probably too small just like what diamondseeker said.

Another I saw was also from Mark's , his site didn't mention its name only said "BT wedding set". But you can see it here. But I am not sure if this is just his customer work.

I think you can receive good suggestions from ladies here. Definitely get your girlfriend involved in the selection process. You/she will not regret the time and effort.

If it looks too contemporary there are other options you can choose from. But one thing to note - it is a myth that tenstion is not secure. In fact it is at least as secure as prongs. It was not until I discussed with more than a few high end jewlers who carry quality brands that I learned it is indeed very secure. They normally do not accept a diamond with clarity lower than VS because of the high pressure on the diamond. A diamond can come out from any setting. It is not any more likely for (high quality) tension than for prongs.

Happy shopping.

Thanks for the comments. I think I''ll start a new topic about this to get more comments.

I rather not ask my girlfriend. She kind of suspects I am getting a ring. So, the stone and the setting will be the last surprise :P
