Greetings All,
I am still having a hard time making this decision. I posted a while back on some Diamond options and this community was great at giving me some tips and advice. I have continued my search but I feel like today is Decision Day. I am hoping to propose Jan 11 so I need to make this call.

The Diamond Decision - must be an oval and over 1c

Choice One: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.10-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-3731863
Choice Two: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.01-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-3619710
Wild Card:

Choice One: Ideal cut, beautiful specs, I love the size. My concern is it not facing up white enough and causing a yellow tinge. This one is the top end of my budget at $5kUSD.

Choice Two: Fantasic stone. Only problems is that is smaller and over budget. I am willing to go over budget if its really going to make the difference, I need your help with that part.

Wild Card: SIZE. This one is 1.5c and going to be available for the same price as Choice 2 $5500. It will be over budget but is the price too good to be true for 1.5c. There has to be some kind of catch.

I am really set on the ring choice or something along that style. I have seen her liked photos on pinterst and this is going to be perfect. Setting: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-edge-lotus-basket-engagement-ring-item-41585

I am hyped up. I am ready to do this. Its really exciting and nerve racking all at the same time. Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice thus far. Happy day all!

I'm not great with ovals (disclaimer) so take this with a grain of salt: I like #2. You said it is over budget, so does that mean you are willing to buy it without regret and sleepless nights?

Am I missing something? You mentioned that the sale ends today, but in looking at the fine print, diamonds are not a part of the sale. So, maybe you don't HAVE to decide today?

EDIT: Or are you just talking about the setting?

The sale on the setting ends today. Correct. But if I want to take advantage of the deal I need get the diamond from JA today as well. I also need this ring and have been looking for too long!

S1C EM Today is the Day my friend. Want to weigh in?:shifty:

I also like #2. The 1.5ct is EGL certified, that would be a no for me as GIA grading can be different (J instead of I color, SI2 vs SI1, etc.)

Ask JA for advantage pricing, the discount may help your bottom line. You can only use advantage pricing or the 25% off the setting. See which discount is greater.

I agree about EGL

Well, if you must today (and I'm no expert), I will echo number 2. Color is definitely better, and the actual measurements aren't much different. BTW, my wife's RB was a 1.26 and measured 6.98 x 6.96, so this stone at almost 1/4 ct less is still going to have a larger appearance. Just something to consider from a non-professional.;)2

And best of luck to you, sir!

I’d probably go with the second choice for the same reasons mentioned above. That’s a beautiful setting- she will love it!

(And no to EGL)

#2 is a better performer. The better color is a plus.

One more to consider. I like the shape and the proportions (a bit fatter and shorter) than your #2 with a lot of life. And...well below budget :mrgreen2:
#3. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.04-carat-f-color-si2-clarity-sku-3358301

Rocky, thanks for responding. You were a valuable resource in my first thread.

Ok, I like the under budget part, but I worry about the SI2. I guess in my inexperience I would think the faint florescence would give it less life. Thanks for your input. I think what you are trying to tell me the Clarity isn't going to matter so much between the two stones.

Relative to clarity, it is what you see with your eyes that can matter (I worry less about the grading until we hit I graded diamonds where I start to be pretty careful).

Why don't you put the SI2 I suggested on hold and then ask the JA gemologist to weigh in on what they can see with bare eyes. If the SI2 holds up to human eye scrutiny, you get the same size with serious savings. If it fails the eyeball test (or you just can't get past the mind-clean part), you have great choice in #2.
