Hello All,

I''m new to posting to this forum, but have been actively reading all of your valuable thoughts, comments, and suggestions for a long time now. I would like to seek your knowledge on a question that I have. I live in New York and have been working with a diamond broker for a little while now to locate a diamond for my mother. She (the broker) has located a wonderful diamond for me and I would like to proceed with purchasing it. She has found me a 1.72 carat F SI1 ideal cut GIA ExEx stone. My friend has viewed the diamond for me last week (located far away from me but close to him) and said that it was a great stone (visibly eye-clean, few inclusions off to the side and none under the table).

The broker has offered to sell it to me for around $14,500. I find this to be a decent price (and of course, she, the broker, says it is too) but after looking at other comparable stones, I feel like I should be paying less.

Couple questions:
1) How much room for negotiation do you think that I have with the broker?
2) How much commission do brokers usually make?
3) What''s a good price for this diamond? Is this a good deal?

Thank you in advance for all of your thoughts!

This one sells for $14690 with the wire discount, so it looks like the price is on target....not a great deal but a reasonable price assuming it really is ideal cut. Do you have all the measurements from the cert? Is there a trade-up policy? I decided to buy from online vendors (Good Old Gold and White Flash) because of the excellent lifetime trade-in policies.

Hi,

I agree, I really like the upgrade policy of some the Pricescope Vendors. I would not purchase a diamond without a quality upgrade policy.

Here is my thinking: A diamond has to be good for these businesses to offer to give you what you paid for your diamond and allow you to select another diamond from their inventory.
