So I ended up purchasing this diamond from BN: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08355173
1.7 Carat
56% Table
62.2% Depth
34.5% Crown
40.8% Pavilion
GIA 3x
$13,596

I've also attached some H&A scope images that I took (really poor quality but it's something).

So is the price good, ok, bad? I'm going to take it into a B&M store to have it reviewed as well but wanted your feedback to make sure no bad decisions are made.

Thanks for your help!

I say DEAL.
All facets look lively in the video, and I don't see any detrimental leakage under the table, although blue hearts & arrow image with black background is not ideal in assessing light leakage.
I don't see any sign of significant painting or digging either.

Looks beautiful!

I say deal. The stone looks beautiful and has all the right numbers.

Beware if you take it into a B&M...there is a good chance that they will talk it down in order to buy from them.

Yes, what tyty333 said. Better to find an independent appraiser (who doesn't sell jewelry), otherwise they're gonna just say "oh I have this one here" (and you could give me (not BN) all of that money).

VERY nice!!! echoing the above... if you go into a B&M store, they'll most likely dump all over your stone in an effort to sell one of their stones (likely a D/E color with SI2 or I1 inclusions and inferior cut). An independent appraiser is a much better way to go and you can use the appraisal for insurance purposes.

Did you buy your setting from BN as well? How do you plan to set it?

That's exactly why I wanted to post it here to get thisawesome groups feedback first. I've had a really bad experience in the past where I was convinced to buy a VVS1, D color diamond. I did so much research this time, that I knew what I wanted, I just wanted to give a jewelry store/dealer a chance to come up with something 'better' so I can be completely mind clean.

Since I bought it online, I want to compare it to something else. I'm not really interested in getting an equivalent for less (unless its 2-3k less) and even then I would need to see it outside the store in every light condition. Or it would have to perform drastically different. I only care about color when it's set in the face-up position.

I originally bought a Diamond set in a micro-pave band from BN, but that didn't work out - more on why later. So, for now, I'm looking for a reputable place to make me a small white gold pave band with six prongs to set it in.

Whats your budget and timeline for the setting?

Whats your budget and timeline for the setting?

I've seen similar settings go online for 600 - 1,500. So probably no more than 2k. I would need it back in two weeks. Hoping to propose around then.

I do however have an irrational (or is it?) fear of the jeweler swapping out my diamond for something inferior.

Your diamond is laser inscribed with the GIA # - it would be hard to swap it out. Their reputation would seriously suffer in doing so too. I assume you're going to a well-respected jewelry and not one you found in the basement between a city alley.

BTW, what happened to your BN micro-pave ring?

Where are you located? Maybe someone can give you recs for a jeweler... check out some of the pricescope sponsors too, one may be near you. If you're worried..... when setting, just ask not to cover the inscription with a prong and ask to see the inscription with a loupe when you pick it up after setting it.

Some settings a jeweler may be able to source for you:

If you're ok with a peg head, this would work:

I live in the Los Angeles area. About 20 minutes from downtown LA. If there are recommended jewlers that would be great!
