I'm already engaged :twirl: I have a beautiful unconventional ring. It is a yellow sapphire surrounded by two mini diamond halos. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, and thought that it was the one. Well fast forward 5 months and I'm starting to realize that I prefer the look of an all diamond ring. The sapphire looks great right after I clean it, but at the end of the day it starts to lose its brilliance and the halos start to look better than the actual center stone. So I told FH about us changing the ring and he was ok with it.
Since this will be my second ring I want to be extra extra thrifty! It seems like I found a deal. It's a beautiful pear cut diamond (0.65) with a halo around it. The total carat weight is 1.25 and it will be $2,899. All the diamonds are graded H and SI1-SI2. The jeweler had it before when we originally went ring shopping and it was $4,765. I'm still not sure if it is a deal or if the original price was insanely marked up.
Please help!

Diamonds require more cleaning than coloured stones to be sparkly. I clean my diamonds everyday but my coloured stones can go as long as 3 days without cleaning. Pears sparkle even less than rounds so are you sure this is what you want? Does it come with a GIA lab memo?

Yes I'm 100% sure that this is what I want to do. What made me change my mind is the fact that the diamond halo looks so good at the end of the day, as opposed to my sapphire.

Haha I would consider a preloved ring  I'll try to upload a pic so that you guys can see the style that I'm going for

This is my current e-ring

And here is the ring in question.

.....nothing???

Well, first, there are no deals when it comes to diamonds.

Second, your pics of the pear ring are quite blurry - as a result, we cannot see the cut of the pear center stone, nor the size of the halo diamonds, nor the proportion of the halo around the pear - and we cannot see the craftsmanship of the ring itself.

You have not responded as to whether the pear has a GIA report - if it is ungraded and the jeweler is saying he judges it to be H-SI1/SI2, well me personally I would not buy an ungraded diamond as a center stone for my ER.

I also wonder if the pear and the halo diamonds are eyeclean to your satisfaction? And what is the ring metal - 14kt gold, 18kt gold, platinum?

JMHO, but if anything, the pear ring was wildly overpriced at $4k+ and likely still overpriced at $2.9k.

In my own experience, when it comes to diamonds, you really do get what you pay for.

To the extent you can see it, it looks very nice on your hand. Is that your future wedding band with it? Try to take some more pictures. Who graded the diamond? Can you take it to an independent appraiser?

This pre-loved ring is a much better DEAL than the ring you have found. Larger diamond and GIA H VS2 clarity and basically the same price.

The main diff. is the pave shank...and if that is why you like it then get that ring.

But if you Buy the preloved ring you will have your "deal".

Love your nails!

Your current e-ring is very pretty but I can understand wanting an all diamond ring. I love the pre-loved ring that was suggested but I like the look of a halo with a plain shank for pear stones. You can always add a diamond wedding band for extra bling. The pear ring in your pics looks pretty on your hand but its blurry so we can't really make any comments about the quality. I also think it looks a bit busy on your hand when you pair it with the wedding band. It just seems like there is a lot going on, maybe because your hands are so slender.

Ditto this. This is a known quantity ring, with a quality setting (Ritani) and GIA-certified stone. With that raised head, you can easily pair this with an eternity-style wedding ring like the one you tried on for a blingier look.

Other than that, we really can't comment on the pear ring you tried on without more info about the stone and better pictures. I will say that it looks like the ring needs to be sized to fit you. If it needs to be sized a lot it could cause problems with the pave on the shanks. This isn't necessarily an insurmountable problem - it's really hard to say how big an issue we would be without better pictures and more info about the size differences - but not all jewelers would be able to handle that size adjustment well. Be sure you get a good guarantee on the workmanship if it needs sizing.

ETA BTW I love your yellow sapphire ring and the way it fits on your hand. You did a great job picking that one - and it'll make a great right-hand ring too! :wink2:

You guys are sweet. But my pear has just become pending sale, so not an option. But I will say I created that ring myself for less than what this person is asking for (and its a smaller size and we don't know the cert info)

So no this to me isn't a deal. You can create a very nice ring for less than they are asking. :D

And I'll just say I'd love to help you in that hunt!

I agree with the others that I would not purchase a stone without a GIA/AGS report. I love your original ering, but I can also understand your desire for an all diamond ering. I'm sure that we can help you find the ring of your dreams within your budget. If you have your heart set on a fancy cut then it's going to be very important that you work with a vendor that can assess the stones light performance and provide you with that information (ASET). It sounds as though you may have rushed into a decision once already, I would hate for that to happen to you again. Let us know if you 'd like us to help, like Neil said....we love the hunt! ;))

BTW: Congrats on the pending sale Neil!! :appl:

Thanks you guys. I won't even bother to put the other pics up because the center stone isn't certified and that sent a red flag. I think what I'll end up doing is finding a diamond to put in place of my sapphire. I would love for you guys to help! My current stone is about the equivalent of 1ct. I'm going to our jeweler on Monday so I'll give the accurate spec. FYI I would like a yellow diamond and I'm not really sure how to evaluate the quality of those.

What would be your budget for that center stone then??

Forgot one thing...the budget! I would love to stay below 5k if possible. James Allen seems to be the only website I know selling them

Try Diamonds by Lauren as well for yellow diamonds.

Please only consider buying a diamond that has a lab report from GIA or AGS.

Def contact David at diamonds by Lauren. Yellow diamonds are their specialty, many of us have purchased from them before and you will need to find a stone that fits your setting so you need someone with access to a lot of options. Good luck!

Yeah I agree with this... I need to clean my diamonds every day, but I can go like two weeks before I clean my sapphire before I really start to notice it. I clean my diamonds every other wear (really SHOULD do it more, but I'm lazy), and my colored stones about every ten wears.

Omg! That is beautiful!!! It reminds me of a Tiffany setting that I once saw. Would sizing it be a problem?? My ring finger is a size 3 and since I'm starting to work out I feel like it probably in a bit smaller now.

id ask the seller. Or maybe start a new thread about it? id be worried about the pave on the side maybe? OR, i know that stone was made by diamonds by lauren, id ask them what they think, that way if you buy it maybe they could take care of the sizing
