Well, my De Beers necklace arrived this morning...bit of a risk as it was sight unseen, but I looooooooove it!

It's three stones, total carat weight 0.22, it has a round brilliant center stone and two side stones that are pear shapes. So, it's really De Beers' take on Diamonds By The Yard. It's 18k white gold and all stones are set in bezels. It's 15.7 inches long with a loop at 14.9, so shorter than usual and good for short/petite people.

I looked at the Tiffany platinum ones but decided that $1600 (including tax) for 0.15 total carat weight really was out of my budget. This De Beers one cost $1,150 including tax and.....IT'S DE BEERS!

I mean, DE BEERS!

I never thought I would have a necklace from there.

Sorry the pix aren't that great - they don't really capture the elegance and the sheer sparkle.

I have examined it under x30 loupe and all looks well. The bezels are quite generous and thick for the size of the stone. Yes, the stones are small at approx 0.08 each. but it's a perfect necklace for everyday. The stones do flip a lot - all the time, in fact - but they have the sparkliest culets I've ever seen, so I don't mind. The pear-shapaed stones are very elegant.

Here's the link: http://www.debeers.com/jewellery/necklaces/j4fz08z00w/clea-three-diamond-necklace

It IS a small necklace, so I don't think it's going to stop any traffic, but if you like subtle sparkle and petite jewelry for everyday, this is an amazing buy in my opinion. It's also a little different from the other DBTY out there.

Very happy and I know it's all psychological, but I feel I "saved" money but not getting the Tiffany plat!

Looks really nice on you - enjoy!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Motownmama! I was just looking at my Tiffany platinum bracelet (which was pre-owned so I got a whopping $455 discount) and I do think that the grayish patina of platinum makes small white diamonds stand out really well, but the De Beers necklace was much closer to my price point. I really couldn't justify $1600 for .15 ctw. And although I'm a big fan of small, petite, subtle jewelry, diamonds of 0.05 are a little small even for me! (My bracelet is 0.21, so 0.07 points per diamond.)

I just can't believe I'm walking around in a De Beers necklace. I always thought De Beers was only for the super-rich, but they now have this line of jewelry that actually isn't ridiculously expensive and whose prices come in a little below Tiffany (I think). Perhaps it's because they own every part of the process - mines, etc.

Thanks for replying - it's so nice to be able to share your joy when something like this happens! Jewelry is expensive, but I'll be wearing my good stuff for the rest of my life and it will then be handed down - so actually it's a bargain!!

Quite elegant! I love the pears!

I love it on you! The length is so perfect and those side pears are great. It is a very classy and classic look and *you* wear the necklace it doesn't wear you. Debeers has gorgeous stuff, I got to check out one of their stores.

Maybe you want to ask the mods to move this thread to the smtb (show me the bling) thread?

It's really pretty. Congrats! But I can't help but think this is some kind of marketing ploy .... because of the overuse of "DEBEERS!" and comparison of DeBeers to Tiffany as if the majority of people would think the former is more prestigious than the latter.

Something smells fishy. Sorry!

I agree that Tiffany is overpriced as all luxury brands are, including De Beers, unfortunately. I do enjoy finding Tiffany pieces second hand, like-new, though!

I am only making this comment since you posted in Rocky Talky where we talk about diamond quality and value.

I think the necklace is lovely and I also plan to get a dby necklace, but did you know that WhiteFlash has a 7 stone, F-G VS, .50 ctw necklace in 18k wg for only $873? Honestly, the name wouldn't mean a thing to me if I could get the exact same thing with 7 top quality diamonds instead of 3 for less money. And WhiteFlash means as much to me as a brand as DeBeers, actually.

I also have a de beers necklace (that I paid retail ;( ). It's very sparkly and I wear it everyday.

Congrats on the new bling 8)

Rockytalky specifics: The stones are G+, VS1+, and Ideal cut. That's not too specific, I know, but the salesperson at the Florida store just emailed me and said that I will be receiving a "De Beers Passport" in the mail with further info about the stones?? Don't know what a DB Passport is. Will be interested to see the cut specs because those culets are more sparkly than I ever thought culets could be!

Decodelighted: I'm not real. Well-spotted! The robots are taking over.

Diamondseeker: Yes, I knew about WF and BGD etc. I considered them. I decided no, as both of them have given me estimates for non-DBTY projects in the past but I was overquoted and underwhelmed. (I posted here on PS about the odd quote I received for a rose gold scatter ring from one of them.) I hear you on the stone size relative to price debate, though. After I got my Tiffany pre-owned DBTY bracelet I fell in love with it, and as for the De Beers necklace, I have admired that from afar for a long, long time. No other design has the pears, and it's not legal to copy it. I know, I tried. I sent a picture of it to WF and they were like, um, that's a BFN. (Big Fat No!) I thought since everyone copied the Tiffany DBTY that WF could do one with pear stones - I mean, who has the copyright on pear-shaped stones combined with rounds? But apparently they couldn't copy the design - which is fine. Obviously, I wouldn't want them to do something with which they weren't comfortable.

OCGirl: Glad you like yours as much as I like mine! Which necklace do you have?

Really? I mean I know that it's illegal to copy a designers product exactly, but I was under the impression that if the design was changed by 20% then it was no longer a copyright issue. I mean really....you'd only have to change the chain and clasp and voila!

I love your necklace though btw, it's exactly what I would want for everyday too. :))

Hi Christina, I just edited my post to include more detail about WF's response to the De Beers design, while you were writing your post.

What WF actually said was, "We are very careful about copying something from De Beers" and said they couldn't do it. So although I took it to mean that this would be illegal, maybe it isn't illegal but they would just rather not. If I were an independent retailer, I might not want to risk De Beers crashing down on me like a ton of bricks, either. I didn't know about the 20% rule you mention. I've often wondered how retailers get away with copying dress designs/handbag designs, etc. For example, all the copies of Kate Middleton's blue engagement dress and wedding dress.

Thank so much for your nice remarks about my necklace! I felt a bit deflated when someone called me "fishy".

Winternight: I've only glanced at the SMTB section a few times and I was under the impression it was only for engagement rings, not smaller diamonds as in my necklace. I've asked for the thread to be moved.

It looks lovely on you! Congratulations and I'm thrilled that you are so happy with your purchase. Sometimes, the pleasure it gives you is worth more than saving money or getting a deal. Your "deal" is that you are in love with it and it has the pears that you love - AWESOME! :appl:

I, too, would think that anyone could make a DBTY w any shape stone - not thinking it would be an issue to replicate a RB/pear design. Interesting...

Enjoy and wear it in good health :praise:

Thank you so much Enerchi!

The 20% copywrite law can be interpreted so many ways. My DBTY solitaire was crafted by a local jeweler based on photos I had of the exact Tiffany design and he only swapped out the chain because I wanted a stronger chain. He was going to make it as is, but if I mentioned the law, just a simple alteration, and voila, 20% change.

Someone gave me a fake Kate Spade bag once and I didn't know it was fake until I realized that the tag had been glued on rather than sewn on. Maybe that was the 20% change? I don't think it really is too hard. And, I also doubt DeBeers would go after WF especially since their (DeBeers) lawyers are busy finishing up that big class action lawsuit ;)) I don't blame WF for not wanting to get involved, though!

Enjoy your necklace.

OK, so I've been comparing my diamonds! I have a James Allen H&A pendant, Blue Nile Signature studs, and a Hearts on Fire engagement ring. They are all really sparkly and HCA 1 or less. I also have a Tiffany DBTY piece, again very sparkly. But these De Beers diamonds are exceedingly fiery for small ones. Or maybe it's just the De Beers magic that makes me think they're the sparkliest! Either way, I love all diamonds and it's so nice to communicate with like-minded people. :)

MC - tell WF what you told me! I was a little surprised, too.

Your new necklace looks beautiful on you!! Congrats!

I'm not exactly sure how the copyright law works either. This is a link to Leon Meges blog though, he discusses some details of it here, if your interested.

I'm so sorry you took offense to "fishy" post. Not to speak for decodelighted but I'm sure she didn't mean to. It's not completely unusual to have an outside vendor post as a user for commercial purposes at it's against forum policies. Sometimes it's difficult (or not) to mistake someones enthusiasm for advertisment.

Looks beautiful on you! Enjoy!

It's a 0.76 ct prong set solitaire with platinum chain. I upgraded it from a 0.2 ct, then to a 0.5 ct then finally to this. I don't think I can afford the next 1 ct upgrade as diamond price has gone crazy after my last upgrade. I'm happy with the 0.76 ct right now :halo:

Here's a picture in that thread. I just realized it was eating the color from my orange camera so the stone looks orange-y. Funny

It is gorgeous. Looks marvelous on you.

I love it!

I'm laughing over here, because I clicked on this thread thinking you got a necklace in honor of my hometown team, Da Bears. I thought "Well, her spelling could use some help, but I can't wait to see what this necklace looks like!" OY.

Anyway, I didn't remember ever seeing any De Beers jewelry around here, so I'm just going to blame it on that. :cheeky:

It's a great necklace! I love the way your excitement over it oozes from each of your posts. Enjoy it!

looks great on you!

Thanks, everyone! I love my newest piece of bling. I don't think I'm going to take it off for a long time! Reminds me of when I was 22 many years ago and in my first job...I worked in the jewelry quarter of my home town and one lunchtime I bought a diamond bezel pendant...obviously I knew absolutely nothing about diamonds, and it was about 0.06 points, no sparkle, with a thick white bezel to make it look bigger, and a shiny white gold chain, and how I loved that diamond pendant. I wore it every day for about ten years and it cost $160.00. I thought I was so lucky just to have a diamond pendant! Of course, today it just looks like the worst diamond possible! I loved it for a long time though. Funny how things change as the years pass!

OC girl, your pendant is really lovely! I'm not surprised you wear it every day. You must get some great comments about it!

Haven, you really made me laugh with your story about your hometown Da Bears!

It's just beautiful! Congrats and enjoy!!

Congratulations on your beautiful necklace!

Wear it in good health!

Oh, and first diamond pieces are always special! You should post a pic of your bezel necklace!

Very pretty!
