DBTY - 5 stones or 7?

If you were getting a DBTY necklace, 16 inches, would you do 5 stones or 7 stones? I was thinking at that length, 5 stones weighted a little heavier towards the front would pretty much cover my neck. I don't want to pay for stones at the back under my hair if I don't have to, but can't decide between 5 and 7. I'm also considering 2 stone sizes - 7 pts and 10 pts. I saw a post where someone did the 5 stones and it looked really nice and would allow me to most likely go with the larger stones. But maybe sticking with ~.5ct with 7 stones would be fine as well. I tried on a Roberto Coin 5-stone one this past weekend but obviously, didn't have it on long enough to see if it twisted around on my neck to show the "naked" parts of the chain.

Thoughts?

I have a 7 stone that I wear religiously and it flips around so the clasp shows all the time....no matter how often I fix it. For that reason I would probably stick with 7. it would drive me crazy to have a 5 stone that looked off center.

Mine has seven (15 point) stones weighted to the front and it often turns to have the clasp in front. I'm having four stones added to make it a "full eternity" so to speak. I love the bigger size too. So I'm not sure which I'd pick! I'd probably get the biggest size diamonds possible knowing that you can always add more stations in the future if you choose to do so. Can't wait to see your pictures!

Definitely 7 at least. The chain will move around. I'd probably wait and get at least 7 point stones, too.

Thanks everyone! I have a sapphires-by-the-yard that has 7 stones, so maybe I'll stick with 7 again. My sapphire one doesn't really twist around, but it ends up at the base of my neck (which is fine since that's kindof where I like it to sit).

I ended up going with the standard 7 stone 1/2 ctw made with F/G VS melee (so about 7 pts each). I tried on several that were smaller melee so I think this size will be great. Can't wait to get it!

Congrats! I have one I bought from eBay and the clasp always ends up in the front and it has eleven 10 pointers and 10 sapphires. I don't know why that is but I can't wait to see yours.

Thanks CharmedOne! Yours sounds beautiful. I'm hoping to be able to layer this new one with my sapphire one. I SO wanted to go up t 10 pt stones but ended up not even asking for a quote, as I was afraid it would be too tempting.

Thanks diamondseeker! As much as I wanted to bump up to 10 pointers, I just couldn't make myself spend the money. BGD's melee is so sparkly it will make up for the small size! (I hope!)

Great choice on the seven stone version! I've seen some DBTY with alternating diamonds and colored stones. Those are really pretty too!!
