5K budget and a reward from you to you for a job well done (Let's say the money is from an unexpected bonus from work or something)

What would you get?

Rules: Can't go over 5K. Can be any number of pieces you want. Here are the options I would consider.

2ctw OEC stud earrings. I-J color and VS in clarity (uncerted stones so they may not appraise out)

[1.4 ctw I-J carat SI clarity H&A superideals. In 14K WG three prong martini settings or eight prong settings (cheaper of the two).

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/4372.htm 4300. I'd find a way to set this thing cost effectively. I'd probably just put it into a very inexpensive stock setting with nice small sidestones for 700 in WG and it would be a stunning RHR. Or, I could get for a 18K bezel and make it a pendant.

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/4206.htm Great size. Tables a bit big for me, and the crown looks low, so I'd have to see it in person. Plus it looks a little brown. But if it checked out I'd stick it in a yellow gold cup with yellow gold prongs in a three stone white gold setting with pear, baguette, half moon, or caddillac sides. Hello RHR.

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/4626.htm Set this one between two parrallel pave half eternity bands a bit like the Bregeut setting I love so much (only without the shank that goes under the diamond).

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/3845.htm Interesting if set East West on a thin pave half eternity band.

Gorgeous Diamond and Tahitian Pearl Pendant and Earring set 10mm-11mm AAA and Peacock overtone. Yum.

Can't see what everyone else's choices would be.

Gypsy -- are you asking which one of the things you like we'd choose, or are you asking us to choose something we'd get for ourselves?

Of the things you've mentioned, the first diamond you linked caught my attention. I love pears, and the idea of doing a pendant or a RHR would intrigue me.

If I had 5K to spend, assuming it would have to be jewelry related and also assuming I'd put some of my own $ towards what I chose, I'd probably go with one or more of the following:

the Tiffany Jazz band
a bead set eternity band (or 1/2 eternity) with milgrain as a RHR
diamond studs (haven't looked into settings yet)
set the money aside and wait until I had saved up enough to upgrade my engagement ring. Same setting style just made with larger stones.

I'm thinking something just for me - it's easy.
A pair of diamond studs - E colour SI1 0.75C each with sharp claws - like the Harry Winston ones below.
I would prefer VS2 but that might go over the 5k budget.

Out of the choices you pose, I would have that first pear in a rich yellow gold bezel so fast I'd leave people spinning in my wake. I have to say, while the color on the second one doesn't bother me, the high shoulders do ... and the color on the emerald and the oval does.

Now, there's a definite element of "I" in there coming off my being influenced by what I do have: when I had a similar choice in the fall, I was tempted by the 2 carat OECs and the yellow pear pendant, too, but wound up going with the 1.4 tcw super-ideals. This was partially because I simply couldn't find a good pair of OECs in that budget (maybe if I'd had the patience to just wait indefinitely, but I am so the instant gratification girl) and partially because my husband admitted to not really loving yellow diamonds, and partially just because ... I'd never had diamond earrings! Traditional, modern, high-quality diamond earrings seemed like an awesome treat! And, it's a lot easier to find a vendor with an upgrade policy on those than it is on antique cuts or fancy colored diamonds ... which makes me feel less like the choice is "final," y'know?

Outside of the choices you pose, I'd also be tempted to get one of those "I Keep the Rock in the Vault" enormo-eternity bands, or possibly a really, really, really long DBTY. But you already have a gorgeous eternity, so .... :rodent:

So, in my daydream, first of all my student loans are paid off, etc (otherwise you know where the $5k would automatically go!)

I would probably get the nicest 5-stone U-prong band I could for about $3,500-4,000.

Something like this:

Or this:

http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/skye-five-stone-u-prong-diamond-ring-570.htm (believe this is similar or even the exact same as AmberGretchen's!

With the remaining $1,000-$1,500, I would buy a nice handbag.

Liking this one: http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod117770088&parentId=cat36710733&masterId=cat14860749&index=15&cmCat=cat000000cat000001cat000009cat000019cat5890735cat000011cat14860749cat36710733

As well as this one:

It's nice to daydream...

Gypsy, I hope you did get 5K to spend. :appl: That would be sweet. I love the yellow pear and would put that in a ring or pendant - either would be divine.

If I had 5K to spent right now I would upgrade my solitaire (.81) to over a carat and if I had any leftover I would upgrade my EC RHR (.71 ct) to about .90 ct or upgrade my studs (.72 ctw).

Well, I'm just a boring jewelry wearer. Really, I'm totally into just having my wedding set and my diamond studs....so, I'd probably split the money and get larger studs (not sure if I'd upgrade my .82 ctw studs or get a second larger pair about 1.75 ctw) and/or pick a second eng ring to alternate with my current one.

If I got a second eng ring to alternate, I'd get some sort of older cut. My current is a RB and I am not into fancy shapes except cushions so that would be an option, as well.

For me, I could make $5K stretch quite a bit since I'm not into huge diamonds or super picky about settings.

ETA - I'm also interested in owning a red diamond, but would need more than $5K I take it? lol

Ok, this is what I would do...
I'm really loving this ring, and the sale price is fantastic! I've been thinking about a white gold wedding band to go with my yellow gold ering.

This is really pretty too, and I've been lusting after a diamond bracelet for so long.

I got rid of my bezel set solitaire pendant a couple of years ago, and I miss it to this day, so I would replace it with one a little larger than what I had.

This is kinda fun, and you can't really beat the price.

That would leave me with $1451, which I would use to upgrade my saltwater fish tank :) My two guilty pleasures.

Zoe, definitely things you'd get for yourself.

Marcy I wish. Just daydreaming though. My bling budget is tapped out for at LEAST the year with the 'odds and ends' necklace I'm having made and a 'possible' either full or partial e-ring re-set.

Just thought it was just since there was a person looking for a a canary diamond on RT for a ring and it got me thinking... hmm... for 5K you could get a lovely yellow diamond... but would you? Or would you go with tried and true (studs)... so something else.

That yellow pear is a lovely one isn't it?

I love seeing everyone's choices, so much fun!

OK, I'll play...

I really want 2 things

1) an OEC pendant in a setting like this (the bottom part of the earring) and a double chain. Maybe I can get one for our 10th wedding anniversary (no we are not married yet...but I plan ahead!)

2) pearl drop jackets for my studs with teardrop shaped pearls. Preferably with some small diamonds also but most likely not!
something kind of like this, but shorter. I plan on having some made for my wedding :)

I am craving one of RDG's three-stone ring designs - I have two different sets of colored stones just waiting for one of these settings - hopefully $5k would be enough!

Well I know exactly what I'd get because that's the budget I've set myself for my reset lol What I am HOPING is that I can get my reset AND an eternity ring AND a pair of studs AND maybe some jackets lol I may need to put that last part off though, not sure it will all fit lol

Who is this RDG you speak of? I'm fanning myself... I want a link please!!!

Sorry - RDG is Robinson Designer Goldsmith in New Zealand - here's their website: http://www.rdgnz.com/

Here's a couple PS threads I bookmarked which shows some of RDG's custom work - truly remarkable works of art, unreal originality:
Afghan Tourmaline Ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/afghan-tourmaline-ring-handshots.146023/
Spessartite Phoenix Ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/phoenix-ring-design.145135/page-3
OEC Ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/hand-creating-a-custom-ring-start-to-finish.151132/

A veritable feast for the eyes, yes? Enjoy!

I would have a new stone cut for my ering and have that set in it and the bezel fixed. And then get some of my other colored stones set. Yellow round chrysoberyl, three stone supernova yellow chrysoberyl and white zircons, green cushion tourmaline, mint round tourmaline, pink asscher tourmaline, lavender gray round spinel...whatever I could get done for the money.
