I am in the beginning stages of working with David on getting a reset/upgrade done. I am sourcing my own diamond and need advice on the next steps. I'm about to purchase from WF and was wondering if I should locally have my current center stone unmounted on my own or have DK do it for me and then he sends it back when he's done? My set is a three stone and the sides will go on the new setting so I still plan on sending him my current ring. Does it really matter at this point? For those the worked with DK what did you do?

You’re buying side stones from WF and sending them and your center to DK? If so, I’d just have him unset everything. That’s what I did. No sense in walking into a local store just for an unsetting. But perhaps I’m misunderstanding, so let me know!

No, I'm buying center from WF and my current sides will go with the new center.

If I had a chummy relationship with my local jeweler and wanted to chat and browse their stock and give them a bit of revenue - I’d go there.
On the other hand, I would have no qualms about sending the ring for DK to unmount the whole thing and immediately send me the center stone if I had other immediate plans for it- or let him hold onto it until the complete project is done and ship to me altogether.

Ah, I see. Since you have to send him your current ring anyway, I see no harm in letting him unset it all.
