Does anyone know what causes the four dark spots in the middle of the diamond pictured?

Hi pb,

It is light leakage. Some is to be expected, in all stones. It can add contrast, in the right places.

I''m not fond of that stone though, too much.

Compare it to this stone, and I think you''ll see the difference.

I would suggest sticking to AGS0 grades for Princess, as they will ensure a pretty stone. Cut is way more important than color or clarity.

The one I linked would be very white, and should have no viable inclusions.

Thanks for the reply Ellen. Do you think the actual diamond would look like that? I wonder what causes it to be so pronounced in four spots like that.

In some lighting situations it will be more pronounced than others. That''s why getting a really well cut diamond is key, because that will ensure that the diamond looks good across the board, in a variety of situations.

It''s just the way it is cut that causes it.

It is the cut. It is well balanced. If you like it go for it. I don''t too obvious for me. All stones have leakage. It''s how the cutter spaces it out that makes for a pleasing stone. I''ve seen some that were not well balanced. The dark spot wasn''t mirrored on the other side of the stone. If that was the case you''d not even post about it here. So if it pleases you call it in and take a look at it. BUT it will look just like that in some lights.

It is not light leakage. It is ''nailhead'', some chevrons have angles close to 45 degree
