I am so sorry for you - I know how your heart plummets when you realise you have hurt your gemstone.
I damaged a beautiful red spinel cut by Roger Dery by accidentally stabbing it with a pair of scissors when I was trying to get the gembox open. It was a painful lesson.
No gemstones (even diamonds) are indestructible, sadly.
Wow I am sorry that sounds heartbreaking. Unfortunately I think dropping could be a death knell for any gemstone, as they can all chip (some even exhibit cleavage planes).
So sorry! I know how it feels. I dropped my sapphire pendant on a tile floor. Took a small chip out of the edge of a facet. Heartbreaking. I consoled myself with the idea that it’s still beautiful/rare/valuable and there will be wear and tear with all gems and jewelry because everything always changes. We must accept it.
I know your pain.
Made the mistake of opening the packaging of my first ever CS gem, a Morganite, in the kitchen...and you know the rest.
Stone slipped out, fell on the tiles, got chipped and broke my heart ...it was an anniversary stone. I've bought 3 other replacement Morganites since then! I will get it fixed/recut one day, but for now it is not a priority. Sometimes we learn the hard way, no gem accidents since then.
I feel for you. It really feels awful. I do all gem related stuff on the bed now to avoid any falls. And while wearing I constantly get worried that I'll knock my ring against a table or a wall. But it does happen, all you can do it be as careful as possible
