I fell and landed on my hands, knees, and face. My platinum ring was scratched pretty deeply as a result. My local jeweler polished it so the ring is smooth, but said the scratches were so deep they’d had to grind the ring down to completely remove them and recommended against it.

Does anyone have a similar experience or insight in grinding the ring down to remove all the scratches? Thank you!

Sorry you fell. Hopefully you are ok.
Can you share a pic? How thick is the ring? Polishing it down will take metal away. Is there enough metal to successfully do this and leave your ring’s structural integrity intact?

That sounds painful. Are you ok?

Could you please attach a photo of your ring? That would help. But your jeweller is the professional and would have polished rings before. I'd trust their advice. We all have scars from life and living. I have a few crazy marks and scars on my body, why shouldn't my jewellery that has lived with me through it all?

So sorry. Hope you’re ok. I had a fall and really banged my ring. A pic would help here.

This may not be very helpful, but I had a really badly damaged setting and had it engraved. I understand that might be the last thing you would ever want to do with yours, but wanted to at least add the concept to the discussion.

If the scratches bother you a lot, could you have the ring melted down and the exact/similar setting recreated?
