Today I managed to commandeer my dad's jade ring for the day. It is in Asian yellow gold- 22K. Ring size 7.75. Dimensions: 22mmx17mm. He used to work in an office and wore it everyday in MYS. I remember seeing this ring as a kid. When we move to AUS, his job changed to be more manual labour orientated. I have not seen this ring in such a long time, 35.5yrs in fact. Over the weekend, I saw someone wearing a jade ring and it brought back memories of my dad's ring. So, I asked my mum about the ring.

Today she brought it out for me to try. And with my dads permission, I wore it to work.
It is quite a substantial ring- talk about finger coverage. Bigger than what I would normally wear. But oddly, it felt right. Maybe, because it is my dads. At the end of the day, I asked if I could wear it for a while.... He said... You can have it... Woo hoo!!! Score!!
Here are the pics!!!

Oh, Greg, you are too funny. It is heartwarming to read of a elder passing on a often worn piece down to a younger family member. I'm so happy for you and I'm sure it'll always be treasured. :))

And here it is with my bead bracelets:
1) adventurine with a carnelian bead- love the combination of colours
2) tourmaline (birthstone) with a jade bead
3) my splint to immobilize my hyperextended thumb- 3 weeks to go.

Oh and hubby described this ring as casino mob boss!!!!

Anyway, here is a pic without splint.

I love it, and think wearing family jewelry passed down is a great sentimental thing :) I think it looks great on you!

thanx love dogs!

What a fabulous signature ring! I looks great on you and I love the story behind it. This ring deserves to be worn!

Oh, how special, and splendid!

What a great story, thanks for sharing.

However, IMHO, the ring is too chunky for OP's delicate hand and slender fingers.

Definitely a statement piece, and has sentimental value, so wear it with love and pride, enjoy!

DK :))

I love it Greg! Go big or go home!

I have read that Jade symbolizes energy and beauty. I think the ring is beautiful. Such a wonderful piece made more special because your father has given it to you.

Lisa RN- thank you and thanx for providing the meaning behind jade- energy and beauty... it definitely encompasses me to a tea!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL. or may be i would get those 2 things by the fact that i am wearing it! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

GlamMosher- hahaha... it is definitely a bigger piece than what i would normally wear. will take time getting used to the size of it.

dk168- yes, a statement piece for sure... and yes, i love it more cos it was my dads....

Molly malone- thank you!

Acimon- thank you.. so this is called a signature ring? i would have just called it bezelled set ring. thanx!!!

What an amazing ring, and touching story. Rings that have special personal meaning are that much more precious.

What a day brightener! Love the ring and this story! So sweet and touching of your father to gift this to you Greg, he obviously saw how much you love it. It looks great on you!

Thanks for sharing. I love a great story with pics!!! It looks very cool! I have been gifted with jade as well and love my rings, though yours definitely is more grandeur than mine, being a gents ring and all. :) I hope you are used to wearing it by now because it definitely needs its time in the sun.

Junebug17- thank you

loves vintage.... i have been wearing it everyday now.. but i need to read up on how to care for the jade piece. i know i have to be careful as it may chip and crack, given how it is set...

Jade is more hardy than you think, otherwise why do you think women wear it as a bangle 24/7?

Chrono - makes perfect sense! Thnx.

Casino Mob Boss is a good look on you - but to really pull it off, you'd have to lose the bracelets! :wink2:

ETA: and the brace - no signs of weakness for a mob boss I reckon.
