CZ u prong ring

Hi all
I saw a nice used u prong ring for sale. It is 14k gold but currently has CZ in it right now. Are u prong rings able to have gems swapped out? I am wanting to put diamonds and sapphires in it eventually

My guess is that by the time the stones were removed, diamonds or sapphires were purchased and replaced, it wouldn't be worth it. Just the labor alone would be spendy I'd think.
