Hi all,

I have recently read an article that says the following:
CVD diamonds often exhibit anomalous birefringence due to the way they’re grown layer by layer.

Single crystal diamond grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) often exhibits strain induced birefringence arising from bundles of edge dislocations lying almost parallel to the [001] growth axis.

Could you please take a look at the below diamond and advise if it's affected by this phenomenon?

Thanks

Have you received the ring yet? It seems like you'll just have to trust your eyes as to whether or not the diamond performs well. Who did you purchase from? I would assume you can return the diamond in the event you are not completely satisfied with it, at least within a given period.

I suggest you read the thread below if you haven't already. Based on the information there I understand that a 360 degree video will not necessarily reveal stria issues. It sounds like a microscope would be a better tool.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

No it has not yet arrived it's due to be delivered by next week Friday, I think I am I bit worried because I don't know much about diamonds and most probably I will not be able to tell if it performs how it should...

I have purchased it from a company called 77diamonds, not sure about the return policy but because this is for my partner birthday I won't have enough time to get another one in time for her birthday...

Fingers crossed that you find it beautiful when you receive it and your partner is equally pleased. There is every possibility that will happen so don't get too caught up in worry now. In the meanwhile I would look into what the company policy is regarding returns and upgrades so you will know what your options are and within what time frame.

Are you in the UK? I know there is a brick and mortar in London. You could present the gift and if there are any issue for either of you perhaps a trip to London to look at other stones in person would be in order.

Yes, you are right there is no need to worry...I will look into the return policy and if needed I would probably do what you suggested
As I said, when it arrives I will post a pic / video so you might be able to see what I probably won't...

I wonder how the scope image would look like and if the author of this video has actually tested it?
