Hello,

I have been lurking for quite awhile and I appreciate all of the great information on this site. I have been considering upgrading my 1 carat round brilliant solitaire to improve the cut quality. I currently have what has been classified as a "good cut", 1 carat, F color, VS2, depth 63.8% (45% pavillion), table 57% (14% crown). I realize that this information is limited and that you may not be able to provide concrete guidance.

My question: realistically (if you can try to tell) what difference will I actually be able to see when comparing my existing stone to the one below from Whiteflash? The most appealing characteristic about my current stone is the colored flashes it throws off under a variety of conditions. Will the average person see a notable difference between my stone and the one below?

Thanks so much for any input

why don''t you have it shipped and see for yourself? that would be my recommendation.

What are the measurements on your current stone?

And what would you do with the old one if you buy the new one from Whiteflash? (I''m assuming your old one did not come from Whiteflash.)

I like Belle''s idea of having the new one sent and comparing them in person.

i can tell you the ACA will look bigger than the one you have now b/c your stone is too deep at 63.8%.

I agree with Belle. If you feel comfortable, try and get the stone sent so you can see the difference yourself.

Whether you can see a big difference will partly depend on the quality of cut of your current stone. If it is an average cut stone or it doesn't have good symmetry, than you will definately notice a difference. However if your stone a very well cut stone as it is, then perhaps you may notice a difference and its questionable whether other people will. Of course if as Dancing Fire says the stone will look bigger because your current one is a bit deep - plus the cut above H&A should also give a larger appearance because it leakes less light towards the edges - the size difference may be enough to convice you to upgrade.

YES!

Sometimes the averaged numbers are not precise enough ... etc. but if those describe accurately your stone.... I think there should be a visible difference, and not just of size. Just IMO.

How significant it would be depends largely on what you think about it, so that I can''t tell.

What would happen with your current stone, if the upgrade turns out to be meaningful after all?

IMO, if you do call in a H&A, it could be larger for the money and of slightly lower grades and still make a relevant comparison, since most of the improvement would be about brilliance anyway. At least VS2 could easily become SI1 without any difference showing, and I would dare say G-H... if that makes a sensible difference in size.

Some H&A are more fiery than others, but it may not make sense to look for the slightly unusual proportions that do that (look up ''fiery ideal cut'' for the story) before seeing some ''mainstream'' H&A.

If you look among the recent posts on this forum, there should be one comparing HOF and A Cut Above... If there is a HOF dealer near you, you could take your diamond along for a side by side comaprison and see if the cut makes enough of a difference for you.

Btw. the stone down the link you have posted appears as ''Sold'' - is this your doing ?

If not, how about... 1.2 cts instead of 1 ?
