Cut gurus, what is this cut?

It looks very similar to the "crown of light" cut be shown all over the Cayman Islands. I didn't like them at all.

AprilBaby,
I looked at the on line images, and i have to say that from the images it does look very similar to the Crown of Light cut. Never heard of that cut before. I personally liked the cut of that stone, but it's a matter of taste. The vendor selling it as antique ring. Go figure.

The mystery is solved.

UPD: Here is link to the forum that discusses the cut. Most of the people agree that even though more costly this diamond out-sparkles even ideal cut. One of the posters says that it does go back to OMC cut.

I think that they sell them in Florida already. Th funny thing is that I'm in Mexico right now about 10 min drive from Playa del Carmen where there are three shops that sell this cut :appl:

I believe it originated on a cruise ship, as something to sell to tourists and then it got branded and patented for marketing purposes. As time went on.

I'm sure that the shape/cut has quite a goodly number of adherents, but personally I'm not a fan. More power to you that you found a new style that you like though!

Inna, I found this thread today and thought it was very interesting. I'm curious -- did you ever take the 10 min drive to look at more of these Crown of Light stones?

GemFever,
Yes and no. We did drive to Fifth Avenue, Playa del Carmen and even walked by the store. However, I could not make myself walk in. Its such a touristy area, full of little shops with cheap stuff (that they sell not so cheap). Its a romantic/honey moon destination with tens of jewelry shops and as we walked by sellers were standing outside and calling us to walk in. Communicating with any jewelry shop owners in a real life stresses me out enough, I can only imagine how stressful it would be to walk into diamond shop in the heart of Playa.
Yeah, I know I have issues. :wink2: (God bless pricescope for helping me to find all amazing pricescope vendors via internet).
Also, as soon as the mistery got solved I lost an interest in it. As long as it had mystique antique charm to it, I was interested, but as soon as I learned that it was a replica + vendor misrepresented it - it lost all of its charm.
I returned the stone and it did not go very smooth, but eventually resolved. Seller asked me if he can return the money in a few installments, I had to open the case and got all money back after that,

P.S. I did buy couple of amazing Italian designer swimsuits that evening :twirl:

hehehe, glad you got some swimsuits out of it :D

Thanks for responding!

I totally just saw a giant wall-sized ad for those diamonds at the Nassau airport a couple of weeks ago! It's interesting to see what they look like in real pictures!
