Customizing a Tacori setting

Has anyone ever done this, or heard of it being done? I'm in love with a Tacori setting, and saw on their website that they will customize, I've just got my nerves up worried that I'm deconstructing something meant for support and I'll end up breaking my ring, or that it will just look blah after they've done my mods. Do you think it will be expensive to modify? I've attached a photo of what I'm interested in doing, arrow points to the small change in the cathedral, that's it that's all :)

Also, damned if I'm going to buy a stone, ship to me in Canada and try to find a setting again! I live in a small town and all jewellers here said "We have to send it away to our goldsmith a couple provinces away.. and we won't insure your stone while it's being shipped or with our goldsmith..." Seriously?! :nono:

Have you seen this ring in person? Because changing that will change how it looks from the top as well, so I'd want to be sure you have seen it and know how the change will affect what you will see most! I actually like the original, but if you do change it, I think the pieces that attach to the head need to be thinned out just a bit (taper might be a better word).

Yep that's fine (the thinning out/tapering towards the head) my photoshop skills were just lacking :loopy:

I haven't seen it in person, there's only one Tacori dealer here and they only have a very small selection of Tacoris, but what I've seen are beautiful :) Here's a photo of the top (I haven't altered it)

Yes, they are beautiful settings! How about asking your jeweler if they can call Tacori and get a sample of that ring for you to see before you order? You might like it as it is, or you might think the stone is set too high, or who knows what? I just think those settings are too expensive to order without seeing it first, and especially if you are considering altering the design.

What is the setting # so we can see if we can find more pictures, maybe even here? Because I'd want to be sure that the parts attaching to the head aren't integrated with the prongs on the sides.

You can do that?! I will definitely have to ask about ordering in a sample first, that would be great. I've got an appointment with the owner of the store tomorrow to help and talk about the customizing the tacori setting. It's the 2503rd75 and here's the link to it on the tacori site: http://www.tacori.com/2503rd75.html

I'm not concerned with brand names, I was just honestly looking for an 8 prong solitaire to go with the antique feel. Since I'm in a small town with no reputable goldsmiths here, my best option was to hand over the stone to the jewellery store that's an authorized Tacori dealer, have them ship the stone insured to Tacori and have it built and set there and re-shipped back. There is no option to find something on Stuller etc, order it in and have it set.. to go that route they would order it in, then send the setting and stone to a goldsmith a couple provinces away to be set... uninsured the whole time. I asked what would happen if my stone was lost or stolen in the mail, and she simply shrugged. :errrr:

I'm definitely open for spending less, but I can't think of any other options to get it set because Canada's insured shipping options just aren't there like the US.

I don't think you'd be deconstructing anything...their 4ct version is not cathedral either:

I LOVE this setting. DH now likes it too and thinks I definitely need something this "royal" after 9 years, I think I've finally rubbed off on him!

I saw that one Panda, I thought wow how similar to what I'm looking for! I've already got a 2.6 OEC center stone though, so not for me.

04diamond - that setting is gorgeous, jaw dropping! I'm in love! I'm looking for no side stones though, but you better post photos if/when you get that setting! I'm excited that Tacori has what I'm looking for (for the cathedral mod) in other settings, thanks for the link :)

Oh, a 2.6 ct OEC will be very gorgeous in that setting! I am not 100% sure whether your jeweler can get a sample ring in, but I have heard of it being done before. I feel like for the price you'd be paying, you have every right to see a sample first!

hahaha, oh honey, it's 8k lol! It'll be a while but believe me, I will be taking LOTS of pictures! I love love love the setting and I'm a glitter princess so I need the extra bling (besides I showed DH both of the settings, the one with the bling and the one you chose and he said that I have to have the one with the more bling lol).

Your ring with be gorgeous especially with a 2.6 stone!!

Back from the jeweller, lots of Tacori talk, lots of setting talk, lots of blingy bling talk.... and I mentioned that while I'm in love with my 2.6ct and want her set to enjoy, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 3.5-4ct in the future :naughty: He said that the Tacori is gorgeous of course, but since I'm looking to possibly upgrade in the future (could be a month could be a year, who knows when I find the next 'the one') that it would be smarter for me to set it in a custom simple solitaire setting, Tiffany style and enjoy :appl:

04diamond - nudge nudge.. I still think you should get the blingy tacori, all $8k of it and just dance around your house staring at it and singing! Especially since DH is on your side! But only if you post at least 30+ photos of it from every angle in every light, I will live vicariously through you and your blingy bling Tacori :D

OOH yes I totally forgot/got distracted by your gorgeous JbEG OEC! With that size though, I'm afraid if you want to go with Tacori you will have to get the HT2604 as the "HT" series are designed for larger stones. I think even with the "regular" rings (which come small, medium, large) the large only can accommodate so far. I'm not sure of the details, as you may be able to fit a 2.57 in the large, but definitely not a 3-4cter ;)) :Up_to_something:

Hopefully you can find an antique solitaire setting on ebay, preloved, or something!

WOW - This link setting is gorgeous. Go the blingy ring now. You will have a fantastic set. You may never upgrade......I think you will love it and it is already huge. Lucky girl........a man encouraging you to go for bling.......listen girl. Order now. I really like this blingy one rather than your modified.
