If I have about 25 round stones 1/4 cttw, and a round .65 carat SI1, H in color and approximately 2 grams in gold (not sure if that''s the proper unit of measure), how much does the cost of labor vary? I''m almost one hundred percent sure I have the right amount of material for what I want, but I''m scared about the labor cost being obscenely expensive.

Any way to judge the cost before presenting this idea to my fiance?

Labor costs vary quite a bit depending on who you hire, where they are and how they operate their business. Not all craftsmen charge the same for their services. With the typical US jewelry project, the cost of labor is significantly more than the cost of materials, especially if you exclude the center stone from the formula. Most are more than happy to give you a free estimate of what they will charge based on the design you’re looking for. Ask. Whether or not you find the answer to be 'obscene' will depend, in part, on how well YOU are paid for your own time and talents.
