I followed a link from a previous post to the Green Lake Jewelry and love their work. I especially like their antique custom rings and am looking for something in that vein. Can anyone recommend a similar store in the Boston area?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I haven't found anything quite like Green Lake in Boston, but there are local artisans and galleries that support local artisans that have similar work.

First is Fire Opal. There's on in JP and one in Brookline. They have really unique jewelry peices and may be able to put you in touch with the artists if you want something specific. Fire Opal

Second is Mattei Galleria. Karina Mattei is a darling woman and does beautiful custom work. It's the only pieces that I've seen where I asked DH "Did you look for my ring here? Because this is great." They're open Tues- Sat. Very detailed, very organic. Very much more in the gallery than online, and books full of custom pieces. Mattei Galleria More of Karina's work

Persona I haven't been to, but I've heard good things. They purportedly have a range of funky and less funky stuff, and a friend of mine is pleased with some repair work she had done there. Persona

Hopefully some others will jump in here- my fine jewelry experience is limited!

Good luck!

I have no idea how far Concord is from Boston. but Mark Morrell would be well worth the drive IMO..

Concord is fairly close to me and I have to be out there on Saturday... may be worth looking into. Thank you.

Wow, very informative. I will check these places out. Thanks a lot!

I remember seeing a ps''er post about having her ring made there... it was gorgeous and from what I remember the setting didn''t cost her that much...

I don''t know anything else about barmakian.. just their rings look very nice on the site!

Wow. There was some serious nice eye candy at that site. Reasonable prices on the semi-mounts too.

Barmakian has great prices but we went into their store in the jewelers building in downtown boston twice and both times we were spoken to in a rude and condescending manner. We were dressed casually both times and they seemed to treat us as though we weren''t important or were wasting their time. Just a heads up. I think there was someone here or on another wedding forum that had trouble with one of their other stores as well.

We''ve gone to the Barmakian''s right over the NH border and they were not helpful at all. The woman looked bored and she kept looking over our heads as if she wanted to be elsewhere. I never do this but I actually called and complained about the service the next day. I didn''t get anywhere but at least they were aware that their customer service wasn''t acceptable.

Concord isn''t far from Boston..defnitely check out Mark Morrell if you can.

thanks for all the suggestions and warnings re: barmakian.

i second persona...definately check them out and see their in house workshop in their kenmore square location.

def. better then anything in downtown crossing.

Just as a helpful tip, Mark Morrell does not have a retail storefront. His workshop is open by appointment only.

Best to call ahead and set something up directly with his office.
