My fiance''s family comes from scottish heritage. He''d like to incorporate his plaid into our wedding, without the kilt

.

The problem is his plaid colors are all wrong....primary colors red, yellow, green, etc. when our wedding colors are more raspberry, sage green, burnt orange, etc.

Does anyone know where I could ribbon made in the colors I want but with the correct plaid design if that makes sense?

I was thinking we could put ribbons on the escort cards and table numbers.

Any other ideas?

Plaid would be a nice touch for incorporating the Scottish side, but it is my understanding that the colors are quite significant to the families, so you might not want to change the colors if you''re trying to honor his family specifically. I don''t think it would be bad for his colors to clash with your wedding colors... it might be kind of cool and make it stand out. You could do something on the groom''s cake with it, maybe?

Sorry, I''m not any help with finding custom made ribbon. Good luck in your quest!

I''m with the previous poster on this one. I wouldn''t mess with the colors. That''s like taking the American flag and redesigning it. I don''t mean to be harsh, but I wouldn''t do it. Otherwise it would just look like you had some pretty plaids in your decor, and the true meaning wouldn''t be behind it.

ditto to what guilty pleasure said. my understanding is if you mess with the colours you lose the meaning and family significance. Incorporating it, even on a really small scale sounds like such a wonderful idea, hope you can find a way to put it in.

Maybe you could do your garter in their plaid? that way it would be a part of the wedding, but a low-visibility part. or maybe the ribbon on your bouquet, no one will really be looking at that either.

Good idea. Or maybe use the plaid ribbon in the bouqet and bouts? Or maybe...do your shoes plaid? Not saying they''d be cute (they could be though) but then you''d have it. Or, have the programs have plaid or somthing. The bubbles have plaid ribbon.

Do a small detail with the plaid so that way it''s not HUGE but...it''s there!

Sorry, but that doesn''t work.

Your clan tartan is not just the design but also the particular colours.

However, you might find that his clan has more than one tartan. My own has three - a hunting, a dress and an everyday tartan. Normally the hunting tartan will be more subtle.

I''ve been to some weddings where the ceremony decor was different from the reception decor (usually the ceremony decor was white or lighter shades of the reception decor).

So you could maybe do the ceremony details (program ribbons, pew decorations if you''re having them, bouquet ribbons, other flower arrangements, even the unity candle if you''re doing that) in the plaid theme and then for the reception use the raspberry/sage/orange colors. You''d have to choose bridesmaid dresses that matched both palettes.

Not the best solution but hmmm, this one''s kinda tough.
