Custom Invoice Amount?? Taxes??

Hello All,
Finally my WF ring has arrived and I can''t wait to get home and see it. The Pics looked very good.
Had a little problem with the taxes that was charged by the canadian customs.

Appantly when Shipping, WF has to list the full amount of the item whem filling out fedex forms and not the actual amount the item is sold for. Custom charge taxes based on the amount on the fedex form and this resulted in me having to pay more on taxes.

For Ex.
Ring was listed at $3500. But lets say that you pay $2700 for the ring. Because of the $3500 listed on fedex form, the buyer will have to pay taxes on the whole $3500.

Both, WF staff and Fedex staff has been very helpful so far. Custom will charge taxes on whatever amount is on the form and WF has to list the full value price as per Fedex policy so I am out with XX amount of $$.

I am still waiting for more information to see where this leads me.


HAS anyone experience this when importing a ring to Canada?

Such paperwork should be made out with the exact price paid for the item in the package. What justified the higher value of $3500? Did you pre-pay part and the total was actually $3500?

I had exactly the same issue when imprting from US (pricescope vendor) to UK (cost me about $35)
I didn''t follow it through but my thoughts are
1) Is the invoice amount the insured amount? in which case the vendor might want to cover the undiscounted cost.
2) Are there any US export rules on this
3) Are there import rules in Canada (or UK in my case) which dictate VAT is charged on undiscounted amount??

thanks for the reply. My invoice list the actual amount (full amount less discounts etc.) paid but the amount listed on fedex form was the full amount. The amount was bank wired in full the day I received my invoice from WF.

Fedex wants me to get "revised customs invoice for the actual amount paid and a letter of explanation why they made a invoice showing the Full value". Once they get these two documents they can then do a refund.

Just got reply from WF and they will be providing me with the documents Fedex/Custom has requested. I not stressing over it too much just can''t wait to see the ring.
