For my one year anniversary, I am upgrading my solitaire engagement ring to a custom made cushion-shaped halo setting. I chose the same company that I got my engagement ring and wedding ring to create my custom creation. It is now two weeks into being without my engagement ring, along with the fact that creating a custom ring over emails and phone calls, is making me one nervous customer.

Keeping that in mind, there are certain things that have irked me a bit:

1. I was told that my CADS would arrive on a specific date. Because I''ve been emailing and calling my contact at the company so many times, I thought I''ll give him a break by not bombarding him with emails and assumed that the CADS would arrive on time. Minutes before closing, still without any CADs, I called the company and they apologized, the CADS would not be ready until the following Monday due to a delay. I was a bit annoyed that I had to call the very last minute to ask where my CADs were, and they didn''t notify me instead. I was told that I would receive an update Monday morning to make sure that my CADs would be ready that day. Again, I called at 3pm on Monday because I didn''t receive an update that morning, but I DID finally end up receiving my CADs towards late afternoon.

2. I emailed the CAD designer yesterday evening my issues, most importantly, the profile looks NOTHING like the inspiration picture I sent. About an hour ago, they replied back saying they would like to set up a meeting with me to discuss the issues at 10 am tomorrow and for me to reply back immediately so they can send me an interview confirmation. Within 5 minutes, I sent a reply back saying that I will most likely not be available since I''ll be at work, and if I can hop on the phone with them either today or sometime different tomorrow. An hour has passed and I know they''re closed now...but no reply.

Maybe it''s because I work in a customer service position but I''m very prompt on all my communication and I guess i expected the same.

Am I being too picky? I''ve resorted to staring at everyone else''s rings to help the days go by in the meanwhile :)

I don''t have my e-ring yet, but I really don''t think you are being too picky. You are paying money (probably not a small amount of money) for this ring to look like what you want it to.

Sometimes companies do have things going on that makes them slower. Is it just a jeweler? or are there a lot of people working? Because that could make a huge difference in the speed people can answer.

I think maybe have a little more patience, but if they keep it up, mention something so they know your distressed about this thing. It is your diamond ring they have in your possession! I don''t think you are being picky about the ring though- that should be to your liking, but maybe they will make it up to you by making it fast and perfectly how you want it after now!

Thanks... I know what you mean. They have produced wonderful results in the past and I am sure they''re just doing what they can to make sure I''m happy with the final results.

It''s not being picky.

I''m really big on coustomer service having worked in coustomers service roles before.

Unfortunatly not everyone is very good at or sees the importance of great coustomer service, sometimes all it takes is abit of communication.

I don''t think you should worry about it, just becuase they arn''t great at communicating with you, it dosn''t mean this is a reflection on the final product.

I haven''t had any custom work done, so I''m not sure if this is normal, but I would be a little annoyed too. In general, I don''t mind if things take longer than expected as long as I am kept up-to-date. Maybe they are backed up because Mother''s Day is right around the corner? Not that that is an excuse for the lack of communication...

No, you''re completely right. They should have let you know that the CADs wouldn''t have been ready on time, and then when you had issues with it, they should have offered you 3-4 choices for times to meet with the CAD designer.

Of everything you mention, expecting you to be able to meet them the following day (a workday!) at 10am is, to me, the most incredible. How many customers would be able to drop everything like that?

Everything that you described would irritate me, so I don''t think you are being too picky. I would email or call customer service tomorrow morning expressing your concerns. As long as there is an explanation and I am kept up to date, I can be patient. I hope that they will be more considerate to you as a customer.
